For this to be such a seen vet, especially with it being one of the only 24 hour vets, you’d really wish they took better care of “less important” emergencies. But, I guess it comes with the belief that they are the only 24 hour vet within 45 minutes of a few major cities like Green Bay. We brought our in-labor mini dachshund to this location in Appleton and was treated so terribly. After being on and off the phone with them since 2 in the morning, concerned that there maybe a stuck puppy in our dog, they finally told us to come in. With being an experienced breeder, we have a little idea on what’s going on with birthing and our females. Though she was showing 0 signs of distress, we became very concerned after doing a abdominal exam on our dog we found what we thought was a puppy-like mass (which was actually a placenta that took over 24 hours to come out and came out at blue pearl while we were waiting for the doctor.) we showed up and was given a room immediately in concern for momma dog being way to stressed out in the busy waiting room. That was like the only nice thing they did. 2.5 half hour wait and a vet tech comes in and asks what’s going on. The entire time I was trying to explain my worries and concerns I felt completely unheard and ignored. As I’m explaining, I grabbed momma dog out of her kennel thinking she was going to want to check her out and instead ignored me and so I put her back in with her babies just for her to then say well we are going to take her back. 10minutes passed and she’s already back told me that they did a vaginal exam and that they found it clear not explaining in any way that this exam is enough to confirm completely that their is no baby in the uterus. Vaginal canal and uterus are two different things. Was told a vet tech and then doctor will be in and will want to go over moms history and talk. It’s just upsetting to hear that potentionally preventing septic shock is considered “not important enough” 3.5 hours after the initial exam, no history was taken, my pregnant wife came back to the vet as she could not sit on their hard, back cushioned only, benches, finally causing concern on the fact we were told someone was coming 3.5 hours ago. When a vet tech finally came to talk to us she was very rude on the fact that all she could say was “Well if there was a puppy in her it’s dead any way” in a completely non-chalant, no cause for concern, making me completely crash out and getting upset and sadly loud about the fact that there’s possibly a dead puppy just sitting in my dog and no one will come and take an xray to either find out if puppy is dead and still stuck in her. We were only presented with the worst case scenario options- no compassion or explanation to any of the symptoms or our concerns other than “dead puppy” comment. The entire time we were there my dog was pushing and straining, while leaking stinky green fluid, still triggering me to think there is a puppy stuck inside. I ended up walking out and my wife finally got them to take an xray to find out that we were in fact wrong and that all the fluid and straining was because there was a placenta and that her uterus was stretched to fit 5 babies after only having 2 small litters previously. The explanation makes sense, but was given the scary possibilities first. The fluid was because her uterus is shrinking but of course we finally get answers after 450 dollars and 7 hours later. Like if your vet techs weren’t listening because we were saying all normal things and there was no concern really then why not communicate that! Why was there no communication other than upsetting comments and “we have more important emergencies that are pushing back yours.” Like if you knew it wasn’t an emergency send us on our way with the one exam instead of making us wait 7 hours in our head thinking our dogs going to go into sepsis and until that happens we won’t be important enough. Just upsetting in the lack of communication and compassion....
Read more1 star only because 0 isn't an option. I first took my baby girl in for respiratory issues that I TOLD them basically appeared overnight.instead of bringing in a diagnostician they sent in a surgeon on the assumption that she needed a $4000 brachycephalic surgery because she was a bulldogge Within 24 hours I told them they assumed incorrectly and that their surgery fixed NOTHING!! Instead of calling me back in to do the right thing and correct their mistake and help my baby girl I was told for approximately another $2,000 they would do a sedated CT and "see if" they could find the problem (which of course would entail MORE $$ to then correct the problem) While I worked to gain more money my girl continually experienced bouts of aspiration pneumonia and respiratory issues. Finally I was ready, I brought her in as she faced another bout of aspiration pneumonia. When I brought her there she had normal rate and rhythm. Spoke to vet in middle of the night to get to get her past history. I requested and was DENIED visitation.
9 am was told she needed hi flow oxygen but hadn't started during the night because they needed approval for the extra $800. Uhm really?? Number 1 I had written another $3000 check for downpayment on her projected care and Number 2 most importantly I Spoke to a vet IN PERSON around 3 am and no permission was asked of me!! (I brought her in for respiratory issues) her rate of respiration was high again at 9 am. I asked AGAIN to visit ( because my presence calms her) and AGAIN was denied. The vet said they would get started right away and I could visit around 1 pm. At 10:34 I received a phone call (I was sitting in parking lot refusing to leave my girl) telling me she had gone into cardiac arrest as they were getting ready to start hi flow (over an hour later??). I shocked them by saying I'd be inside within a minute.I burst into the back area without being let in. What I saw was something no loved one should ever see! It was like a TV version of life saving measures! My baby was clearly dead long before then. (I work in medical field but anybody with eyes could tell she had been dead awhile) And of course they lied about everything!Did I mention on that 9 am phone call the critical care vet actually LISTENED to what I had been saying for MONTHS and stated that the problem sounded like it was a hiatal hernia ALL ALONG and once they had her breathing issues back on track they'd scope to confirm it!! I lost my baby, my world because THEY CHARGED ME $3500 TO OPERATE ON THE WRONG END BASED ON AN ASSUMPTION AND I LOST HER!! Worst part is they don't give a flying .... fig!! And would charge me more if they could figure out a way!! Save your beloved family member (and money) and go BASICALLY ANYWHERE BUT HERE!! If she were 2 legged you'd be charged with manslaughter!! The most appalling part is that even a MANAGER of the facility knows what/where/how they killed her (over sedation on a compromised respiratory system) and completely neglecting the oxygen requirements needed (that's why we were there) to be able to regain control of her breathing. Not to mention charging me over $3500 for an unnecessary surgery done based solely on ASSUMPTION! AND missing the surgery she ACTUALLY needed! She suffered for months! as her oxygen needs were still being ignored a diagnostician LISTENED to me and realized what her issue had been this whole time and said we'd get her fixed up as soon as her breathing was under control (again admitting she STILL DESPERATELY NEEDED support 13 THIRTEEN HOURS AFTER ADMISSION and still was Not receiving it!) The 13th hour my baby girl DIED ALONE IN UNNECESSARY DISTRESS ON HER 1ST FIRST BIRTHDAY) Let that soak in!! I LOVE YOU and am so sorry!
1 yr later start getting them to the rating they deserve! Haven't forgotten about you FVARC. Don't forget me because I WILL find someone to listen and not let you get away with...
Read moreBased on the other poor reviews, the staff will respond to this comment to placate future potential clients, but I write my review as a warning to those future clients- I wouldn't recommend this clinic to my worst enemy.
Our 4 year old dog started the day with vomiting that got increasingly worse. We called our regular vet who couldn't schedule him for a visit until the next day so they recommended going to the closest emergency vet in Appleton- BluePearl. We called them and they told us to come at 6pm. We arrived at 5:45pm and we were seen promptly. They took our dog to the back, came out a few minutes later and asked for permission to take xrays, to which we agreed. For 6 hours we didn't see or hear from any staff members, so I finally asked the front desk staff for an approximate wait time. Their verbatim response was "we're waiting on blood test results." At hour 7 I asked again for an update and they told me they had just gotten blood test results back, and shortly after someone asked - for a second time- to take xrays. This was an odd question as we were asked this within 20 minutes of our arrival. Eventually the vet came in and told us that the xrays didn't show any obstruction and he recommended meds for gastroenteritis. After almost 8 hours in an emergency room, not having seen our dog that whole time, and it being almost midnight, it didnt even cross our mind to ask about the blood test results. Based on any other medical visit, if it isnt brought up, we assumed that meant the results came back normal. The vet said he was going to give our dog meds for gastroenteritis and the vomiting should cease, but based on the xrays, to expect diarrhea. The vomiting did not stop and the diarrhea did come. So, we still saw our regular vet the next day just to find out that BluePearl NEVER RAN ANY BLOOD TESTS. As I sat in another veterinary office with my dog who became increasingly dehydrated from the constant vomiting and diarrhea, I had to listen to my veterinarian ask her vet tech twice that BluePearl did not run any blood tests. The vet tech verified this and said she even called BluePearl to confirm that no blood work was ran. Somebody explain to me how a pet owner brought in a dog who is vomiting for reasons they cannot explain and a veterinarian gave medication without any understanding of the underlying causes? And not only was this dog given medication for an unknown medical issue they didn't even look into besides an xray to confirm there was no obstruction, they lied to my face saying I waited 7 hours to get blood test results.
As I write this review, it's 24 hours later and my dog is in a different emergency vet clinic in Waukesha because my dog is still vomiting, has diarrhea, is extremely dehydrated and a myriad of other issues. And instead of going back to BluePearl I drove to a legitimately reputable emergency clinic that has positive reviews and is recommended by my regular veterinarian.
BluePearl didn't fix the issue my dog was having, who knows if they even made anything better or perhaps they made it worse. They didn't run any blood tests for a legitimate gastrointestinal issue I couldn't pinpoint to a specific event or situation and then lied to my face about doing the most basic part of their job. I'm sure there's some excuse they could throw my way, but at the end of the day if you can't operate in a trustworthy manner you'll never get hundreds of my dollars again. And don't doubt that I'm not looking into a way to...
