Since enjoying numerous positive dining experiences at the downtown Katsu-ya branch, I decided to try out this branch. I visited here a few times to test consistency of the food and I have to say the quality holds up. For the Fox Valley area, I think this is the only restaurant where I've nigiri, sashimi, and maki whose quality were on par with the ones I've had when I've been in Tokyo and downtown Los Angeles. The ingredients are fresh which greatly enhance the tasting experience. It was also to my delight that they had uni and that it was also fresh. The various times I've been there, I've had the omakase or on the menu "nigiri and sashimi Chef Special". I respect the thought the chefs put into selecting which fish would be best and the arrangements they have to make it as visually appealing as possible. To compliment the prime taste of the fish, their tea and their selection of sake pair well with the meal. I greatly thank the serving staff as they were knowledgeable in what pairings to offer along with explaining which fish the Chef served me. I think this is most well-managed sushi restaurant along with the Katsu-ya branch to grace the Fox Valley area. I never doubt the quality and this is a wonderful place for me to introduce my friends to the wonderful flavorful world of sushi.

This restaurant was excellent. The best hibachi place I have been too and the sushi was also amazing. We ordered the red dragon sushi (salmon) and the California roll. If you enjoy sushi you have to try the red dragon. It was delicious. For the hibachi, they serve a broth/mushroom soup, salad, and white rice. I ordered the steak and it was done perfectly. You also get an assortment of vegetables, some shrimp, and bean sprouts along with the meal. The oolong tea was good and at the sherbet at the end really finished off the meal perfectly. You do not have to worry about leaving this place hungry. Our chef Shawn was very kind and put on an amusing show. We didn’t have to wait long for the food despite the place being quite busy. The restaurant is a bit expensive but reasonably priced considering how much you are getting. I will definitely be coming back.

Our hibachi chef Nate was very good and entertaining. He had a good sense of humor. Make sure to cover your drink as they will toss shrimp tails in the air and don't leave the table or else they might sneakily throw a shrimp tails in there! I had the rib eye and shrimp while my husband had scallops and fillet mignon. We both enjoyed our meals immensely, but my favorite was the rib eye. There was alot of food served, many people at the table had to get take out boxes. I enjoyed the experience alot and would definitely return.

Went for a Father's Day hibachi dinner here with my parents, sister, and my boyfriend earlier this summer. It was probably the worst dining experience I've ever had.

My sister has a SEVERE fish allergy. So severe that she can't go in fishing boats, any shorelines where fish might have touched the rocks, etc. She even needs to buy food for her cats that has 0 fish products in it. We have been here a few times (she can have steak/seafood), and my sister thought she remembered one of the courses having something in it that she couldn't have (the soup). We asked TWICE (once before the soup came, once after) to verify there was no fish in it. The waitress ensured us both times that there was no fish. Fast forward 5 minutes and my sister's throat is itchy and she feels her face start to slightly puff up. We asked a third time and the waitress again said there is no fish. A minute later the manager came out and told our family there was in fact a type of fish in the soup. She wasn't having the intense reaction she usually does to fish (throwing up, throat closing, unable to breath), but you could clearly see something was wrong. It turns out that my sister has a severe allergy to lake fish, and a moderate allergy to whichever fish was used in the soup (thank goodness), but obviously it ruined the entire experience for us as we were extremely worried and cautious the entire time. The manager was kind, but at this point our meal was ruined. The waitress never even came over to apologize or address us about the fish incident, she just acted like it never happened. To make matters worse, she messed up my hibachi protein selection, forgot to add the extra sides I ordered, forgot to bring my dad a beer refill TWICE, never brought my first cocktail, and at the end brought me the wrong ice cream. It seemed very intentional by that point because she was being quite rude to me as I was the one speaking up on behalf of my sister so I'm sure she was annoyed with me, but my sister literally could have died. I was still very polite throughout this but was irritated, rightfully so, as this could have been life or death. And to add insult to injury, after ruining our entire experience, they comp'd my sister's food but made her pay for her strawberry lemonade. ???

Absolutely unacceptable and had it been another type of fish, my sister could have died as it takes only minutes for her body to start shutting down even with an EpiPen. Please train your servers to be sure of what they are serving or at the very least ASK, regardless if it means taking an extra trip back to...

While the atmosphere is definitely amusing (almost feels like a museum), the food was a miss for me. Seriously, every menu item my sister and I had was off in one way or another.

The miso soup was so salty that I poured a generous glug of hot water into each of our bowls from my tea kettle to even it out. (And usually she and I are salt fiends.) And speaking of which, I ordered a kettle of hot water with lemon wedges, and even that was unenjoyable. It tasted noticeably like tap water. Then the house salad with the famous ginger dressing was missing that balance of tangy and sweet. It tasted very strongly of lemon. It wasn't terrible, but it was not the classic dressing we expected.

Next? The veggie tempura. Was a bit surprised to see a slice of red or russet potato in the mix instead of sweet potato. Was sort of odd to me, plus sweet potato was my favorite part of that dish so was disappointed. Also they included a tempura-fried jalapeño pepper as well which I mistook for green pepper. I'm lucky it wasn't a super hot pepper, but really think they should have noted this on the menu. Otherwise, I'm sure many others are in for a spicy surprise.

My sis also ordered a side of fried rice which was probably the most off-putting to me of all. It looked delicious, but upon tasting it, the only flavor I picked up on was that of black pepper. Didn't taste like salt or buttery oil, or egg. Just tasted plain with black pepper. How can that be?! Was truly bizarre.

The sushi roll went over well with my sis. Pretty much is what you'd expect: a mess of sauce, which I guess most people like. Fair enough. I was ecstatic to see they had butter fish/Escolar on the menu, but I made the mistake of getting the torched version and it just tasted and smelled like 'burnt' and torch fuel, which I've read is something that happens when you use a certain fuel vs another and/or use too much of the body of the torch flame vs the tip...anyway..just some nerdy stuff.

Perhaps their hibachi is much better than their sushi, you know, apart from the soup, the salad and the...

Kind of disappointed with my last experience.. ALWAYS LOVED attending nakashema for any family event, in this case my birthday last Wednesday 3/27. My boyfriend and I Sat down fairly quickly at our table along with another family and there 5 kids. The show was fun and drinks were awesome along with the food. However, we had ordered 2 sides of the fried rice with our meals as it is our favorite part and we wanted to make sure we had enough! Well for some reason the chef decided to start serving the meals on the kids side, and end on my side (witch is no big deal to me what order they serve in) BUT PLEASE TELL ME WHY WE WERE SERVED LESS PORTIONS OF EVERYTHING THEN THE KIDS WHO HAD ORDERED KIDS MEALS. 4 pieces of chicken and steak and the dad and mom decided to shared there fried rice with there kids so we were left with not even a half of a spatula full of rice when they got to us. On top of that maybe 5 bites of veggies each. I was pretty upset but it was my birthday so I decided not to say anything to ensure I had a good night. However, at the end of the meal, the couple and there 5 kids couldn’t help but announce they’re bill out loud witch was 230$ exact not to mention the dad had multiple shots and the mom 2 glasses of wine, they were so happy with the price of the meal and the amount of food everyone was served, and on the other side of the table was my boyfriend and I. Stuck with a 160$ bill for 2 People and 2...
