Breathtaking view once you trek down to the main waterfall (added bonus if you visit at sunset). It is quite challenging - I would consider it under the moderate-hard category, however, it is 100% worth it. The incline does get very steep at several points and I had to take occasional breaks to catch my breath. Also, when you get closer to the main waterfall, the mud on the steps leading to it, is pretty wet and slippery as a result of other streams in the vicinity. However the trail throughout is very well maintained and easy to walk through (except for the incline of course). Took me about 30 mins one-way (with the breaks). I visited in fall so it was pretty windy and the water was quite cold but I heard it’s a great place to take a lil dip on a scorching summer day. If you’re here for the deets, read below:
So there is the main waterfall that you can see up close which is the main attraction, but there’s also a lower level below this (a smaller waterfall that leads into the creek) that is quite steep to climb back up once you trek down to it. It is about 50ish steps below the main waterfall that I described above.
Besides these two levels, I also saw a lot of people walk up to behind the main waterfall and it definitely seemed like the perfect spot for pictures, especially during sunset. I would avoid it since it seemed extremely slippery to walk up there.
There’s also a view point at the very start (before you get to any of the above), and though it’s beautiful even from such a distance, it does no justice to what it feels like to be up close and personal!
It does get crowded Friday through Sunday (during the fall at least), so I would do a weekday (also because you might have to wait for a...
Read moreLove love loved it! I came here once when I was 17 and wanted to bring my boyfriend to see why I liked it so much. We got here, and it was absolutely breathtaking. It was clean and lush and so full of beauty and life. I love that I got to bring my doggo, and I loved that I tired her out before we got home...
Ps. IF YOU LOST A PAIR OF BLACK GLASSES, I not only have them, but I have a funny story for you. They were found by the falls in a little secluded area that I had to climb over rocks to get to. I'm pretty sure there was a glitch in the matrix.... because we stopped to rest have a snack and cool off. I took my glasses off, splashed my face, and put my glasses back on. When we were ready to move on, we started cleaning up, and I picked up my glasses and was confused when I could feel I already had them on. I could NOT believe the chances... the glasses I found... were the exact shape, color, and SO close in prescription. I simply could not believe it. I likened it to answered prayers because I've been trying to get a new pair of glasses, but my insurance wouldn't cover it. So I've been praying. Honestly. As much of an amazing experience this was, I can not in good conscience just keep them. So if you're looking for your glasses. I has them! ^-^ my only suggestions for making this place better is trail markers, so people who are meeting each other can find each other easier, small receptacles along the trail for doggy bags from picking up after dogs. It was not fun carrying the bags around for hours and possibly informative plaques with some history of the place, Because I know for certain there is some! I can sense some friendly spirits here and always wonder how they...
Read moreOne of the favorite 2 level waterfalls in NY. This was on everyone’s bucket list when they are in NY. You get a mesmerizing view of the fall from different levels. We visited almost a week after it rained in the states so the waterfall had not much water. One side I was disappointed with the water, other side I was happy because I was able to get closer to the fall at both the levels. People were swimming, taking shower under the fall, relaxing and clicking their pics for instagram. There are no waste bins so please ensure carrying your garbage with you. The waterfall looks beautiful without garbage around.
Parking: the fall is very close to Laurel House Road but this parking gets full at early hours, there are different parking lots as well, the next nearest lot is Scutt Road parking lot. Check the maps for distance to the fall. Parking was free. This lot can accommodate Around 20 cars, you may get the parking after waiting for few minutes.
Hiking: We trekked from Scutt Rd and the lower of the waterfall was like 1.6 miles, where 0.4 mile was 180 steps down. I would call it for moderate hike considering coming up. Get more water with you
Restrooms: There were 2 portable toilets at Scutt Rd parking, both were near and clean and had toilet papers in them. There are no toilets or restrooms on the trail.
Entrance Fee: Free
Coordinates for both the parkings:
42.19573, -74.063024
