Today we went to Wild Waters Outdoor Center - Sacandaga Base. It is Nestled in the picturesque landscape of the Adirondack Mountains, Wild Waters Outdoor Center’s Sacandaga Base offers an exhilarating escape for outdoor enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike. The natural beauty of the area is breathtaking, making it an ideal backdrop for a day of outdoor activities. Whether you’re paddling down the river or relaxing by the water, the serene environment adds to the overall experience. The Wild Waters excels in providing a variety of outdoor activities. I participated in their white-water rafting tour, which was an absolute blast! The guide Nathaniel was knowledgeable, professional, and ensured everyone felt safe while navigating the thrilling rapids. They also offered kayaking, paddleboarding, and tubing, catering to all skill levels and preferences. The variety of options means that there’s something for everyone, whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or looking for a leisurely day on the water. The staff at Wild Waters is one of its greatest assets. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and enthusiasm. The guides were not only experienced and skilled but also had a great sense of humor, making the experience even more enjoyable. They took the time to explain safety procedures and offered tips for navigating the rapids, which made me feel confident and prepared. Also Nathaniel was the great at making are trip a true adventure. The facilities at the Sacandaga Base are well-maintained and convenient. The rental equipment was in excellent condition, and the check-in process was efficient. There are also picnic areas where visitors can relax and enjoy a meal after their adventures. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, creating a sense of community among adventurers. Considering the quality of service, the thrilling experiences, and the beautiful location, Wild Waters Outdoor Center offers excellent value for money. The rates for activities are reasonable, especially given the level of expertise and safety provided. So the advice... My girlfriend and I did the short Sacandaga trip (with Linda) last year and decided to go for the 17 mile trip down the Hudson this year(with Tuna). Tons of fun both times! Now that we have a couple of trips to compare I can definitely say that the sacandaga is A LOT easier. Sure, you can get that from the difficulty rating but really, looking back, it was probably exciting because the guide made it exciting. They know the route and where all of the fun spots are to hit. So its really fun but if they need to, I'm sure guide can adjust the "fun factor" to fit the party (Thanks again Linda!)
The long Hudson one was a blast! Take Sacandaga and turn it up!! This one is fun but PLEASE listen to your guide. When they want you to paddle... Its not a suggestion... They are trying to guide you safely through the obsticles... And sometimes they are trying to get you into some fun features. If you don't listen, you miss out! Tuna was a great guide and we hit some nice features along the way. He is a wealth of knowledge so if you get him, don't be shy, ask questions! He taught me quite a bit about how to read the river as he was navigating us. So it added that little bit extra to make the trip even more fun! (Thanks Tuna!)
If you're new, i recommend doing what we did, start small and get your feet wet (Pun somewhat intended) then see how that feels before you go on to the bigger stuff. I probably sound like a spokesman lol but nah, I just got an adrenaline rush there today and I felt the need to share some love....
Read moreIt's easy to find (just look for the refurbished "COOL BUS" fleet out front, with all the rafts strapped to them.) Staff is friendly, and after your safety lesson and equipment check, you will feel confident that even if you have never whitewater rafted before, you WILL know what to do on your trip. The guides who literally guide your shared raft down the river make you feel safe while at the same time, will steer you into the next rapid, then back out again, to make sure you get your money's worth, and mouth full of water-as well as your hair, clothing and shoes. Know that you WILL be soaking wet, from head to toe, by the time you are finished with your wet and wild tour. Check the website and read ALL the fine print to make sure you are prepared in every way. Save a little money (keep it in the car, as it WILL be swept down the river if you have it with you on the tour,) as there are photos of you and your group taken during the ride, your face is guaranteed to be better than any log flume ride you've been on. There are shirts, mugs, handcrafted jewelry, etc. to buy as well. Don't forget to hold your breath, and have fun on this unique experience, then you can check it off your bucket list, thanks to Wild Waters...
