We so enjoyed the sunset voyage on the Yankee Clipper at the very tip of Door County in Gills Rock. It was a beautiful evening and music filled the air from the guitarist on the top level. The captain and crew are so friendly. We even had fun and conversation with other passengers. The water was so smooth and it was so peaceful and picturesque. We even talked to the audio guy and found out he also works at Sip and is in a band called "The Deep End." We saw pelicans taking flight and landing and enjoyed all the bluffs and homes peeking out of the trees. The breeze would change from cool to warm as we went to different areas of the coastline. I got to walk around and take photos which was fun.
There are other sites that you can incorporate when you go up to Gills Rock. The curvy road isn't far from the dock area. There's a museum and some cute little shops. Those weren't open when we were there, so you'd have to check their hours. Shoreline restaurant is right beside the dock and has new owners and we have to check that out one day. Of course, there are multiple towns on the way up.
Bottom line ... I loved...
Read moreWe have the joy of living in Northern Door County, but often forget to take advantage of our local resources. Our Daughter and friends are visiting for Labor Day weekend and suggest a sunset cruise before dinner. Who can say no to their children even at 26? I for one am glad we did.
The drive to Gill's Rock was as beautiful as always with plenty of parking close to the dock. The well organized and friendly crew welcomed us aboard and gave a brief safety overview. We had selected sitting on the bow, which was a great choice. We could hear the peaceful melodic guitar and singing of Frank Maloney and appreciate the gorgeous scenery.
We enjoyed the snacks and adult beverages we brought along while chatting and taking in the scenic views of the Peninsula. You forget how beautiful Door County is from the water! The tour was the perfect length and the sunset did not disappoint.
If you want to have a family friendly, peaceful and beautiful boat ride this tour cannot be beat. Race to Gill's Rock to take advantage before the...
Read moreFantastic boat tour. Gills Rock is quieter and further north than places other tours depart from, and we appreciated the tranquility and opportunity to see the islands up close. Our captain Mark (who's a Washington Island resident & ferry boat captain) and tour guide Otto were knowledgeable, accommodating and could not have created a better experience. We did the lighthouse tour which most of us agreed was the most interesting route. The tour was filled with history, and Otto was able to answer all of our questions and added interesting details about the history of each island, and the wildlife, geology, and current conservation efforts.
I'm looking forward to the next time I'm in Door County, and I'll definitely be taking another Death's Door tour ASAP. I'd recommend this tour to anyone. They had above deck and lower deck shaded seating, and allow you to bring snacks and drinks....
