Hannaford — Local services in Town of New Hartford

I’ve been a customer of Hannaford on Kellogg Rd since opened their doors. I have never had any problems with the staff there. I actually really enjoyed most of the staff all these years. Today, the most incredibly inappropriate, disrespectful situation occurred that I have ever experienced in my life . Shortly after going into the store I noticed I had missed calls from my husband . When I called him he explained that our special needs adult daughter was having an emergency needing the bathroom and asked me to please come get her. He stayed in the car at the second post that states no parking . He was not near the store entrance post. A make employee who had come out of the store lighting up his cigarette for his break went to our car and stood there smoking. My husband asked him if he needed something. The boy proceeded to tell him he could not park there. There was also a female employee outside as well. My husband explained to her that his daughter is disabled and that I was coming out to get her to bring her to the bathroom. They did not care. My daughter commented “ pew” as cigarette smoke drifted into our car. I came out and tried to explain to these two staff what the situation was. They did not care. The boy called the police and two police cars came. Legally speaking a sign in front of a grocery store that says no parking does allow a person to be dropped off. The car was never turned off or left unattended . Also the fact of being disabled legally the staff needed to make accommodations for her to be dropped off. So the police left and I called and spoke to a staff person claiming to be the assistant manager which is who I asked for. He was not interested in anything I tried to explain. Shortly after I get a call from the assistant manager. She also was quite rude and did not take anything I was telling her into consideration. Now I must add that when it’s raining outside people pull up in their cars to get their food delivery so the staff doesn’t get wet. This is done right at the store entrance area. We were not close to that area. So the bottom line is two police officers came and this employee made a scene as my daughter who does not understand what was happening had to sit there and be upset while two police cars were called because my daughter had to use the bathroom in a hurry. My husband was not going to park the car and have me go get her risking an issue in the way in from the parking lot. Next step is I am updating the manager and hannaford officials. They did not give reasonable accommodations to our handicapped daughter per the law based on the reality of what that sign means. I also have to add a stranger was recording us. Never will I step foot in that hannaford again. I spend 1500 to 2000 per month there and am there 5 days a week. I’m just one person and I’m sure my money means nothing . Humiliated. I came to this store at least twice a week for years My mistake admittedly I bought a canvas bag and transferred my 14 purchases that may have triggered the theft prevention. Cashier 0501 was overzealous to say the least. After verifying each purchase with the camera and the ongoing receipt, he then checked to make sure the item was is my bag? 14 items. Each one checked. I asked him if I could help if he was looking for something particular and he declined stating he needed to be thorough. After verifying each purchase was accounted for he just walked away. The store was packed. Humiliated for 14$ no sorry, or thank you. Was all that necessary? Check to make sure the item was in the bag? Never going back. Walmart has a...

This is one of the nicest Hannaford locations. It is clean, well laid out and spacious. Just looking around, you see them constantly giving attention to the upkeep of the store and the needs of the customers. When I couldn't find something, Managers Charlie and Mike were very helpful, and I have had other associates assist me with things as well. They always seem happy to help. The produce is fresh and nicely displayed. This is not the closest store to my home, but whenever I'm in the area, I make it a point to go there.
