I'm sad to say I probably won't be going back, but let me break it down:
BACKGROUND: I went on October 18th - I don't know if it's because of how early in the night I went or what, but the crowd was full of younger kids. I went alone and ended up being placed in a group of 5 middle schoolers.
THE GOOD: Length! It took an hour and maybe even a little more the get through the entire forest. Along with that, because you're outdoors with a lot of space you have the room to RUN. Having clearly been the only adult of the group, I was singled out for a lot of interactions and chased away from the group many times. Helping hands. At the very start of the haunt, somebody in my group realized they wouldn't be able to make it through. I was able to lead them to a nearby scare actor and they were led out of the forest (back through the entrance since we had just started). There was also a scare actor who led us back onto the trail when we got truly lost shortly after.
THE BAD: Confusing set-up. Within the first five minutes of the haunt our group ended up in an area that was definitely off the trail and had to be led back the correct way. Half of the barriers were a single piece of caution tape which wasn't always the easiest to make out. Unlike other haunts, the maze aspect to this haunt was real and there were "wrong" ways to go. Had the chance to be cool if half of them didn't lead to dead ends that left us more confused than we started. The spacing. Now, this obviously isn't a downfall specific to this haunt, but our group caught up to the group in front of us several times. Luckily, the group behind us never caught up to us but we definitely spent half of the haunt having to purposefully slow down as not to catch up to the group ahead of us. On the other hand, this could have been caused by the whole getting lost thing I mentioned earlier. Rising tensions. I recall specifically at least one or two scare actors who were very clearly fed up and done for the night (of which had just started). They seemed genuinely upset at the people passing through, broke character, and made that portion of the trail genuinely uncomfortable. Definitely took away from the experience. I do hope the rest of the night went a little bit better for those actors. Incohesive. There really wasn't a story. I get that the whole premise is it's a "forest of freaks," but I didn't realize how literal it would be. It's like they took a handful of random characters and just threw them in at random. Characters included but weren't limited to Beetlejuice, clowns, mad scientist(?), Michael Myers, literal giant teddy bears, reapers, and I can't even remember half of the rest. All with no relation/connection/interaction with one another.
OVERALL: While there are individual parts of this haunt that I had fun with the overall experience left me feeling a little...
