Stay away from this place! Went today at 11am to buy some water, groceries, charcoal etc. There was short, old guy who clearly didnāt want us (even before us saying a word). He did not respond to our āhelloā and bluntly said āwhat are you here for?ā. I was so shocked that I didnāt know how to react. When my buddy, a fishing enthusiast, politely asked if there are any nice places to fish around Phoenicia- his answer was even more astonishing. He goes - āyou need a license and we donāt give them anymore. Also, there is no fishā. That was enough for us (clearly we know the laws and had purchased required resident fishing permit and access permits in advance). Needless to say, we do not belong to his ethnicity/race but cannot blame ourselves for his prejudice, ignorance, and insecurity. We quickly bolted and purchased our groceries from a neighboring store (the lady was way nicer and kinder).
I hope the owner of this place and law enforcement take notice of this individual. I have seen other reviews suggesting similar experiences- perhaps the owner is complicit with this ābrandingā. There is no place for this type of behavior in this day and age - so please take your business elsewhere as clearly they do want our money.
Sadly this experience left a bad taste in otherwise a fabulous vacation - Doesnāt portray a good picture of such a wonderful vacation destination and nice...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI should have the option of no stars. My friend and I walked in (both greeting the person in the back)--a short old dude with a long beard moved from the back to the front counter to greet us, he stopped mid-sentence when looking at (both brown women), shook his head and turned around facing the wall of cigarettes. Although I understood what was happening, I made another attempt by saying, "how's everything going." He continued to shake his head, ignoring us and facing the wall with his back towards us. My friend and I just turned around and left, barely making it into the store. As I was leaving, I said, "we will just get out of your here," in which he responded, "good." Some of the locals in the town couldn't believe it was racially motivated---but what else was that when he took a look at my friend with braids, and then looked at me. It was a horrible feeling to be on vacation and have this encounter. Nonetheless, the owners should know better. I was looking for wood, kindling, desserts, and snacks. They lost anywhere from $25-$60 dollars.
A side note---there are bunch of better places around to find snacks and food. I wanted to go somewhere that looked liked they belonged to the community for a long time. It is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis market is TERRIBLE to say the least. These reviews do no justice to show how terrible this market and its workers are. Before we jump in, i would like to say that this page is for the Phoenicia market and the Phoenicia FARMERS market. This review is for the market.
Pulling up to this place, it looks like a shotgun shack. Me and my family walk into the store, and we are greeted with what smells like feces and 50 year old febreeze. we had to stop to get some small items for the house (beer, vanilla, milk, etc) and we get our items. all in all the purchase was over $100!!!! The rude cashier makes prices based on what you look like, and other people in these reviews dealt with similar issues. There was no markings of a price, so it was INFURIATING when it ringed up to a hundred bucks. This was tuesday, so fast forward to today (thursday) i open up the vanilla to make french toast, and you will not believe me when i say THEY SWAPPED OUT THE VANILLA WITH GREEN FOOD COLORING!!! š¤¬š¤¬š¤¬ NEVER go to this market, it has rude cashiers and TERRIBLE...
