This is one of Washington Island's most historical edifices, and it also happens to be in the form of a quaint family-owned grocery store that will have most of what you'll need. From sundries to steaks, beers to bacon, candles to coffee, tequila to toiletries, cheese curds to condiments, and deli meats to dainty treats, Mann's will have what you require. The staff and cashiers are mostly friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand, if able. Jeffrey and Jerry Mann are absolute gems and rockstars and are fantastic workers who run a tight ship. Just keep in mind that they do not have a restroom available to the public, unfortunately. There is parking in front of the store and also to its left side. It is handicapped accessible, as there are convenient ramps on either side of the store leading up to the doors. However, there is no automatic door function, but the doors do appear wide enough to accommodate an assisted mobility device.
Included are some images of the food, ingredients, and beverages I have purchased from here from my most recent visit, which have been cooked, consumed, imbibed, and put to good use. Although Washington Island has several wonderful establishments at which one may grab a delicious bite to eat, I still find myself preferring to cook and prepare my own meals, here and there, and when I do, Mann's Food Store has exactly what I need to get the job done. Come check them...
Read moreAlways a smile on the staff, home made brats, nice liquor selection, variety in general, Everything from fifties era Orange cream sodas to cherrywood smoking pellets. It's the only true grocery store on the island, so they try to carry all the essentials as well as catering to some unusual tastes. Closed on Sundays but that's OK, Really a great place to find a few Grilling items or beer or cheese curds in a pinch. They also sell cute little calendars for the island, using local photographers and their work. The family are Good folks, also kiddycorner to a couple of bars, restaurants and a sweets shop. Quaint, serves a function and probably the most Stark example of Main Street America, This island probably lives or dies based on the operation of this store, the Mercantile and the ferry system. Glad it's been around for so...
