Having grown up visiting Old Forge, I hadn’t been back in nearly 15 years. Returning was like stepping into a cherished memory—but with a fresh, modern twist—thanks to The Lakes.
Nestled right along the channel leading into First Lake, The Lakes is a beautifully renovated property where owners Emanuela and Jon have truly created something special. Since purchasing and revamping the camp in 2020, they’ve transformed it into a scenic getaway of cozy cottages that blend rustic charm with thoughtful updates. It’s close to town, family-friendly, and the perfect setting for making new memories.
We stayed in The Fulton, a 3-bedroom cottage that was the furthest from the channel—but still only about a minute’s walk away. It was just the right size for our small family and impeccably clean inside. The property also features two communal decks overlooking the water, where we spent each evening unwinding, watching boats drift by as the sun set over the lake. It was peaceful and just what we needed.
If you’re a lake person, this is your kind of place. There’s a small, shallow area for kids to swim safely, and if you’re looking for a beach day, town beach is less than half a mile away. We also rented the party barge and spent an unforgettable day exploring all four lakes, reliving childhood memories in the best way possible.
Jon and Emanuela go out of their way to make you feel like part of the family. They also offer boat and jet ski rentals, making it easy to enjoy the full lake experience without the hassle.
If I had one small suggestion, it would be to consider updating the communal decks with Trex or composite decking—it would be a perfect finishing touch. But honestly, that’s just a minor detail in what was an otherwise flawless stay.
Whether you’re planning a couples’ retreat or a full family vacation, The Lakes is the kind of place you come back to again and again. We’ll definitely be returning… the only question is, how many more family members are we...
Read moreWe had another great stay at The Lakes again this year. We were greeted with several upgrades since our last visit.
New WiFi. Superb coverage and speed. Air conditioning in the cottage. Felt wonderful on those hot days. Boat rentals. We brought our own, but on site rentals are super convenient. New exterior stain on the cottages.
The Lakes is a wonderful place for families to include your furry pals (pet friendly). There are so many free activities to make your stay enjoyable. Swimming, rafts, canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, fishing (bring your own gear) and camp fires. Each cottage has their own grill, fire pit, adk chairs and a picnic table.
The inside of the cottages are beautiful and special care was taken to decorate each one with that adk flair. They are equipped nicely to include most everything you will need for your stay.
If you are looking for a place to unwind, we highly recommend The...
Read moreWe are a three generation family of 11 people who spent a week at the The Lakes. We LOVED our time staying at this beautiful location. We had three cottages: a 3 bedroom, a 2 bedroom and a one bedroom. The cottages were well equipped with all needed cooking equipment. The fire pits with large Adirondack style wood chairs were comfortable and a wonderful place to gather. There were also two large decks next to the lake that were used as common spaces. With only eight cottages on the property the decks were never overcrowded. We all enjoyed using the kayaks, canoes and SUP boards throughout our stay. Our grandchildren had fun playing tin the small beach area. Our hosts, Emanuela and Jon were responsive and quickly took care of any needs we had. I would highly recommend this...
