Houghton Meat Market — Local services in Tucson

Two women behind the counter ignored my wife when she entered with nobody else in the store. My wife was about to leave when someone came out from the back to help her. My wife wasn't going to beg for attention to be served. They just continued talking to each other.

For the same money you'd pay for ugly steaks at Dickmans that are actually good, you get fatty, inedible handsome steaks from this place. We've tried it twice. The first time was average. The second set of steaks were disgusting. I tried two of the six small steaks and threw them both away because there wasn't a piece that was more meat than fat. My son said his was fatty and ate around it. My wife hated hers as well.

The New York crumb cake was as hard as a brick to the point we had to chisel pieces with a knife to cut it. It might have tasted okay if it was fresh, but honestly nothing ever seems to be fresh at this place.

My wife and I decided to stop in on 9/3/2025 instead of going to our usual carniceria near our home. We walked in and started to browse the selection. The 3 staff working were males and at least two of them seen us enter the store. No one greeted us or made us feel welcomed to be there, let alone very unwelcome to shop here. 🤔 We did a 1 time walk around and left after feeling so uncomfortable being in this store. 😬 If you like being ignored, then shop here. If you like feeling uneasy & unwelcome, then shop here. If you like knowing that the staff see you but won't open their mouths to be helpful, then shop here. The market is identical to Dickmans, but without the strong business stewardship. I bought a Tomahawk which totaled over $80.00. Brought it home. The next AM (12hrs later ) I unwrapped to prep for the BBQ. The meat was totally spoiled! Blue color and smelled really bad! It was brought back promptly. When presented with the issue, no apologies provided. Just an offer to get a new one, which I accepted. The fellow came back out with a new (fresh) cut, but it was about 1 LB smaller than the cut I bought! When asked why I was given a smaller cut, the response was "...well the one you bought yesterday was on sale, this new cut is not on sale at the regular price, your getting a deal because its about $10 more today than yesterday...
