My 10 year old Kitty has had some sort of GI issue for the past couple years. She vocalizes (short high pitched cries) while pooping sometimes (or just before, or right after) and displays general discomfort at times. She's had diarrhea issues come and go. Various diets have been tried with gradual changes. Even Hill's I/D seemed ineffective.
My sister is a vet tech and I'm pretty knowledgeable about cats, detecting even slight behavioral changes and I take exceptional care of both cats (the other is a 1 year old kitten).
After a little more than a year of testing at VCA with all test results showing no signs of any problems, my doctor recommended an internal medicine specialist.
I called the few options within reasonable distance of San Bernardino, asking general exam and testing costs and availability. Marqueen quoted very reasonable prices, and excellent availability. I was able to get an appointment within 2 weeks.
I had provided various background information about Kitty and arrived with a complete folder of all her records. I even called VCA that morning and requested email copies of what I was missing. I didn't need it.
The moment Dr. Queen walked in, she introduced herself and I immediately felt a good vibe. She said hi to Kitty, and after a brief chat, she went straight to business.
She had already obtained all of Kitty's records from VCA and had reviewed them and become familiar with them before the appointment! My own doctors don't put that much effort in.
She examined Kitty, asked the right questions, and her communication was excellent. She didn't dumb it down, but didn't expect me to know the technical terms or procedures either. She thoroughly explained the tests she would like to have done, as well as the reason she recommended it, what it would test for, and how the results would impact overall diagnosis. I had questions and she thoroughly answered each one fully.
Dr. Queen is friendly and very approachable. It's easy to communicate with her and she just has this vibe that no question is silly, dumb, or unimportant. She's very knowledgeable and she doesn't pretend to have answers if she's unsure. She takes the time to explain her thought process and has made me feel like she's Kitty's personal doctor from the moment she walked in.
Specialized testing is not cheap. Actually, any testing is not cheap. Anywhere. But I already knew one of the needed tests was an ultrasound, and the price they quoted me was extremely reasonable. In fact, I believe they were the most affordable of the places I called, and unlike some places, they have the ultrasound equipment there, and Dr. Queen did it herself. They gave me a total quote for the tests Dr. Queen had recommended, and as much as I wanted to, I couldn't quite afford to have them all done that day. They were very understanding and Dr. Queen helped me choose what she felt were most important. The ultrasound was performed that day while I waited!
Dr. Queen followed up with me on results, and even returned my call off-hours when I missed one of her calls.
After a second round of testing, we still have only received good, normal test results. But any pet parent understands the feeling of frustration and disappointment of good test results when everyone knows there's something wrong. I personally went through a series of about 5 MRI's, a CT scan, 3 EMG's and 2 EEG's within a 6 month period with an exceptional neurologist back in 2016, so I first-hand understand how some things are only diagnosed by ruling out every other possibility first. Neither I nor the people at Marqueen are giving up though and we already have some next steps.
Vet diagnostics aren't cheap. That said, unlike VCA, I have not at all felt like they're just after my money. Every test was thoroughly explained and I was confident about what I was paying for, before I even paid.
I have never felt more confident in a doctor than I do with Dr. Queen and the staff...

When I walked in, I was still in shock myself so i had a hard time even speaking. I stood in the fairly empty lobby with him in my arms and a bloody towel covering his neck, feeling so much disparity and stress. the front desk agents just looked at me awkwardly for a bit until another nurse came up to ask me what our situation was. We sat up front for a little while, and then I noticed a couple came in with their dog and was immediately taken to the back to be seen. they seemed to be more attentive and empathetic when they arrived.
We were placed in a room and waited roughly 2.5 hrs. Spent about $280 for consult and pain meds that felt like they took way too long to administer in the first place. They didnโt bother to clean his wounds, just gave him a pain med shot. It seems they spent more time trying to put together a quote for treatment than actually tending to my pets needs, which was highly concerning.
The doctor and assisting staff were fairly kind in their interactions, however I still felt they lacked empathy and urgency in helping care for my pet. Was quoted $7k plus for overnight care, plan b was quoted at an upward $1500, including miscellaneous fees that made absolutely no sense to me. Also, they donโt do payment plans, so expect to shell out cash if you want quality service in a timely manner. It seemed as though they were more concerned about getting a payment before actually tending to the poor little guy. I left because I didnโt feel we were getting proper attention or support. There were also dogs being put down while we were there and it was tough to hear owners breaking down in tears as I waited anxiously for help.
I donโt think this company has a genuine love for/desire to help pets, more so to break your pockets and potentially your heart. Sadly, the Marqueen was giving โprofits over...
ย ย ย Read moreAfter two thousand dollars worth of diagnostics, I came to MarQueen ER in the hopes of finding out what was wrong with my poor German shepherd Grant. From the moment I entered the lobby, I knew Grant would be in good hands. Everyone from the administrative side to the veterinary assistant to the vet themselves were excellent.
Backstory: During Thanksgiving week, I had fed Grant chicken bones (which I will never do again) and so Grant had radiographs done to see what was going on. He was prescribed pain medications and laxatives. Pancreatitis was ruled out as well.
Two weeks later, Grant was still showing signs of pain and discomfort. No blood in the stool or urine, no vomiting, no other symptoms besides yelping and a hunched back. One vet recommended that I take Grant in for an exploratory surgery, which is prohibitively costly.
Thankfully I was referred to MarQueen by one of the two vets and I'm so glad I came here because Dr. Richard DVM was able to figure out what was wrong with Grant. The other two vets were focused on the Chickengate 2024, but Dr. Richard took one look at Grant and the radiographs and diagnosed him with neck pain.
As it turns out, Grant currently has a strained neck and back. Everything I reported lined up with neck problems, and Dr. Richard with his decades of experience was able to figure that out so quickly. The moment Dr. Richard entered the room, I had this sudden feeling that everything would be okay - Grant must have sensed this too, because he immediately went over to Dr. Richard seeking comfort. He has excellent bedside manner, demonstrating great empathy that is so rare to find.
Instead of spending thousands on an unneeded surgery, I spent around $200 dollars on the emergency exam and some much-needed pain meds for Grant. I highly recommend MarQueen to anyone who wants their family member to be...
