Maker Faire is why I visit Mare Island! What a fascinating historical location this is, and when you combine it with something as technologically advanced as Maker, Faire, history truly meets the future! If you would like to attend Maker Faire, I highly suggest not just buying your pass to the faire but also purchasing the prepaid parking. Parking is located in a field across the street from the event and they have buses that will pick you up and drive you on to the Naval Base for free. Last year was the second year that I went at this location and this system works fabulous. Once you're inside the gates of the faire, make sure that you take note of not just the cool vendors and makers that are represented. Take note of where you are! These buildings are historical and representations of peak of technology for their time. Things to do at Maker Faire? Start has always been lit from the iconic Adam Savage of Myth Busters fame. At the end of the opening ceremony my mommy, he generally leads the crowd in from the platform of his robotic giraffe. It's quite an entrance. Plenty of other fascinating things roaming around the fairgrounds, including motorized cupcakes with people sitting, wearing them or pirate ships that move on land. Many of the things that go to Burning Man also come to Maker Faire. This event generally happens in the fall, so start looking for tickets sometime in August. If you get them early enough, you can usually get an early bird discount. Don't forget to get that parking pass as well!...

Today, he took me to a very nice outdoor venue on Mare Island called Godfather's Vino Winery. There, a church & other community-based organizations serve food and distribute clothing Etc to those who are in need. It's a very honorable thing to do. I was able to support them by purchasing a beautiful floppy reversible hat from my lovely lady named sugar who sells African clothing and artifacts. I am so happy I feel like I spent my money well in support of the good causes today. Go there when you get home on Friday in Mare Island you will be...
Read moreIf you're a history lover you have to check out Mare Island. It was the first naval base on the West Coast back in the 1800s. The golf course is still operating and is the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi River. The Dry Docks are still in operation, large vessels coming in and out often for repair/maintenance. There is a SF Ferry stop on Mare Island now, so convenient! If you're not a history lover you may become one upon visiting. I highly recommend the Mare Island Museum, you will learn A LOT! I also highly recommend the Mare Island Brewing Co in the Vallejo Ferry Building. Great beers and a...
