They used to be great, but recently they cost me a new AC unit.
Our AC stopped cooling and we called NJR to take a look.
1st Call: Someone came by they took a look at the unit and said the compressor was bad and left. We tried to get in touch with their sales department but 3 days went by with no calls.
In the interm, I decided to call another company for a second opinion. They took a look at the unit and identified the issue as bad wiring to the compressor. The resistance on the compressor was fine, but the resistance on the wiring was high. when They temporarily fixed the wiring and told us that it would be best to call NJR Home Services again and have them replace the wiring since it was covered.
2nd Call: We called them and told them that the wiring was bad and that another company temporarily fixed the existing wiring. A tech came by and looked at the unit and said that they would order the wiring and a new waterproof cap. He also checked the Freon levels. He stated that it was slightly low but did not want to fill it because it may rain. The Freon leaked for about 7 seconds as he removed the gauges. The unit did not cool as well anymore.
NJR Home Services sales department calls us between call 2 and 3. We opted to not have anybody come by but they were persistant and we scheduled something just to get a quote. There's no harm in getting a quote right?
3rd Call: The tech came by with the wiring but no waterproof cap. He stated that the cap wasn't necessary anymore. He replaced the wiring and refilled the Freon. He did not tell us how much went inside the unit. Right after he replaced the Freon, the unit sounded awful but was running. He stated "Compressor is on it's way out" and left. He was unwilling to admit that the unit sounded worse after he filled it. Later that night, the AC unit stopped cooling.
4th Call: Tech came by and saw Freon all over the compressor inside the unit. He did not hook up any guages to it. He stated the unit was bad and left without touching it.
NJR Sales department came the same day as the 4th call. We got a quote to replace the unit. It was basically a sales pitch about why they were the best to replace the unit.
I'm writing this review after getting multiple quotes and talking to multiple AC techs about my situation. FIrst off, NJR's quote is over double the competitors quotes. Secondly, other AC technicians have confirmed that the compressor likely blew out from overfilled Freon. One tech stated that by the sounds of it, the failure was done intentionally to attempt to sell a new unit.
Lastly, when I contacted NJR about these issues, Chris (a manager) was extremely rude. He hung up on me once and continuously interrupted me while I was trying to speak. NJR will not admit fault here. When I asked NJR for notes on resistance values and the level of Freon in the system, it was conveniently "not in the notes".
We've had great experiences with them, but their latest string of incompetencies will cost us thousands of dollars. I've learned my lesson, pay for an honest local company to look at the unit. Do not give these people a dime. They will not document things on calls, their techs are mediocre at best, and they will not take ownership of any...
Read moreI recently had NJR Home Services install a Generac Whole house generator. it was installed in February, which is why I didnât notice the problem with the installation until June. When I went to open my pool, I realized that my pool pump wasnât working and upon further inspection, found that the electrician who attached the generator to my breaker panel disconnected my pool pump.. When I called on a Friday afternoon, I was told Iâd get a call back and I didnât. When I called back again, I was told that they were only there for two more hours and that they would try to have somebody call me. I was told I would get a phone call first thing in the morning on Saturday and I didnât. When I called on Saturday to figure out why they hadnât called me I was told a supervisor would call me back. When the supervisor called back, he called Me back on the wrong phone number not the one thatâs on file on their system. I happen to be next to the phone so I answered it because it Was my wifeâs phone. The supervisor was very matter-of-fact and Kind of rude And told me that I have to wait till Monday that theyâre not going to reimburse me if I hire my own electrician to fix their mistake. They basically told me that Iâm beat and that I have to wait until Monday to have somebody contact me. That is unacceptable. They made a mistake. They disconnected my pool pump From my electrical panel, which they should have never done. I put $100 worth of chemicals in my pool on Friday and now theyâre going to go to waste and I have to wait the entire weekend to even run my filter only to wait for somebody to potentially call me back on Monday. I shouldnât be penalized for their mistake and have to wait Days and days to have them rectify it. Completely Disappointed in their lack of urgency to correct a mistake...
Read moreI had a new AC unit installed by a private contractor and have had nothing but issues with it since the install. After working with technician Paul @ NJR Home Services it was determined my inside and outside coil both had leaks and needed repair. They offered to work with the manufacturer regarding my warranty, in which Shawnie took lead on this. Shawnie then advised the current coil was obsolete and Bob would need to come out to measure to be sure the 17inch coil would fight. At which time Bob determined a new AC unit should not have been installed without replacing my 1992 furnace, in addition all the wiring/piping was outdated and my flue pipe had a huge hole in it. I received a call on Wed from Mike F who advised my furnace was condemned and I need a new one installed. He had a Sales guy at my home the next day! Within a week Shawnie and Mike were able to coordinate the warranty work for the AC and my purchase of a new furnace to be all installed together. As a whole the NJR Team was a pleasure to work with and very knowledgeable. However, Mike and Shawnie went above and beyond to assist me. Mike especially not only was he professional, he showed care and compassion to my situation. He understood my perspective, provided me reassurance, and followed through on his word! Even called the day of the install to make sure everything went well. I personally have 25 years in customer service, and you don't see the care given by one person but an entire team often enough. ...
