If you are looking for a hotel just to stay the night in, I recommend this hotel. The bed was comfortable, and we had the necessities. If, however, you are looking to enjoy the accommodations offered, I do not recommend staying at this property. The first computer I attempted to use in the the business center would not work, and the second would not print. The coin operated washing machine did not work when I attempted to use it, and it smelled awful. I called the front desk, and a houseman was sent down. It must be a recurring problem, because he went straight to the back of the washing machine like he had done it before, did something, and it started working right away. I actually was fairly surprised, because both the washing machine and the dryer looked to be very old and in poor condition. I stopped at the Bistro for a drink. The bartender had to go to the front desk to get someone to help him, and the person that came over did not know what the recipes for their signature drink was. I showed her the menu, and she made it as described. I was actually overcharged for because "they were not given a button for it", so they rung up what they thought was the closest thing. Luckily the rest of the night went well.
The next morning, I made my way down to the Bistro to get breakfast for my husband and myself. When I got back up to the room, I tasted my coffee for the first time. I had asked for a caramel macchiato with nonfat milk. After tasting my coffee, I can only assume that nonfat milk also equals sugar free syrup. Not sure why, as it does not at any other Starbucks. The fruit that came with my breakfast sandwich was moldy, as was the fruit that came with my husband's. Another surprise that I got later in the day is that they do not serve Starbucks throughout the day. I thought that it was a Marriott standard for Bistros, but apparently not.
We were gone all day on Saturday, and although I had opted out of housekeeping for our stay, housekeeping did come into our room while we were out. Very disappointed in the lack of communication between departments. What makes this worse, though, is that when I went to retrieve a book that I dropped, I saw trash and an empty beer glass under the bed. The beer glass was not ours, and it showcases not only the lack of communication between departments, but the lack of attention to cleanliness details.
We checked out very early the next day, around 3:30 Sunday morning. When I called on Monday to get a receipt emailed to me, I waited for over an hour before I called back and requested it again. I was told that there was a shift change, and she didn't know anything about the request, but she would send it over. I did receive it on the second request, but only for the room and tax. I had to call again for the 3rd time to get a full receipt. I was told that "when people ask for a folio, they just want room and tax". Um, no, I would like a receipt that shows what I was charged.
All in all, while this hotel is in need of some sprucing up, it is a nice hotel. I heard several times "I'm new here", and perhaps that is where the details fell through the cracks. Again, if you are just looking for a place to lay your head and sleep, this place will do. If you are looking for a hotel that lives up to Marriott standards, you will do yourself a favor to choose a...
Read moreI wish I could leave 0 stars. This is without a doubt, one of the worst hotels I have ever been to. Dirty, lazy staff, overpriced, & outdated just to start things out. Let me explain in detail. For starters upon entering the room, it had a terribly musky, moldy smell to it. Ground level room not that, that matters or at least it shouldn’t but just for context. Once you’re in the room, we noticed that almost every surface was dirty. The lack of basic cleaning was almost comical and had we not been tight on time and exhausted for the wedding we would’ve requested another room, but I’ve had to wait several hours which I had already done that day. The remote was nowhere to be found for the tv and the power button on the TV was broken, and once i found the remote, it was found on the dirty ground next to the nightstand that separates a room with twin beds. I will say the AC unit worked in the sense that the room was cool, but I have this gut feeling that the filter has not been changed in a LONG time as myself and everyone else who stayed in the room woke up with the worst dry throats you could imagine. The bathroom was horrible!! A combination of it being outdated and lack of proper cleaning. I’m not a germaphobe by any means but holy crap this was bad. You could noticeably see the previous guests hair, dirty floors, and sticky counters. I stated above lazy staff, and that is referring to the cleaning staff. I don’t know if you’re outsourcing or if the people you have are just smoking out back but something is obviously wrong with your cleaning staff. Now I had attempted to check in three times. The staff at the counter was nice all three times but there must’ve been a miscommunication or lack of understanding somewhere. I did request an early check in initially. I was told that it “maybe” could be done. I do understand what the word maybe means. Upon arriving, I was told none of the rooms would be ready yet, however if I came back at 12:30 “our room would be ready”. That was great news to hear until I came back at about 1:15ish figuring I would give them even a little bit more time to have the room ready and it was still not ready. I’d prefer to be told that my request could not be accommodated rather than being told a time when it would be ready. Even if I had to pay extra for an early check in that would have been fine, but no. So myself along with everybody else that I had to share the room with had to get dressed for the wedding in the dirty lobby bathroom and when I say dirty, I mean dirty. The lobby must have a terrible air conditioner unit or no air conditioning at all because the combination of the heat in the bathroom and the heat in the lobby was disgusting. All of us were sweating through our dress clothes. So finally well after 4pm we were able to check into the hotel. Just in time to catch the shuttle. The hotel bar is significantly overpriced to be noted. The hallway both at night and the morning we left smelled of weed. For the price the we paid for this hotel I’m absolutely disgusted with this stay and I will never be...
Read moreThis hotel was a great hotel. Truly a great hotel. To start, the staff who work here is just top notch. I literally had three people check me in, and they were spectacular. The three people in question are Sharon (manager), Maggie, and Ryan. If you check in with any of these folks, you will feel very welcome. Nothing says “hello,” better than a smile.||||But I have to be honest, prior to checking in, I read all the reviews, and many were not good (1 star). So bad, that we called the hotel a day prior, but were assured that what was written was not true. Because of this, I feel the need to address these “issues” people complain about:||||1) “The air conditioning in the rooms does not work.” This statement could not be more false. In our room, we could have frozen out someone from Iceland if you turn the thermostat all the way down. Upon further investigation, it was the lobby area that was on the fritz, not the rooms. With all due respect, I feel bad for the nice people working the front desk with a semi-working air conditioning when it’s 100 degrees out, while people complain about the lobby they just walk through for 20 seconds.||||2) “The rooms need upgrading.” This statement is somewhat true, but for a hotel that is scheduled for refurbishment soon, they are in stellar shape. I am a lifetime Titanium Marriott member, and I have seen them all in terms of a shape of a room. Our room was great. In total, I saw a screw missing and a cracked, yet repaired, piece of marble in the shower. But that’s it. ||||3) “This hotel is not close to the beach.” It was never advertised to be closed to the beach. There should have been two clues in the name of the hotel: a) “Courtyard Wall…” – Courtyards are Marriott’s business hotels… at least that’s how they started and b) “… at “Monmouth Shores Corporate Park” – It even says “Corporate Park” in the name. Last time I checked, New Jersey is not known for it’s corporate parks on the beach. FYI – All local beaches are about 15-20 minute drive. Try Google Maps next time.||||4) “There was not maid service every day. It was every other day.” – Welcome to a post-COVID world. This hotel is better than most places. Most hotels are every three days if there is any housekeeping service at all.||||There are more silly complaints, but I will stop here.||||So I just don’t get it. My wife and I had a great week+ at this place, and although it’s a business hotel during the week, it seems to be the wedding party venue on weekends. Great place, wonderful staff, and pretty much everything you would expect from a Courtyard. Don’t believe everything you read on the inter-web (except this) because one little thing can set off someone and give an unfair rating of 1-2 stars. I hope you enjoy your...
