I no longer trust the Bakery Department at Stop & Shop in Walpole. Yesterday (8/29), my daughter and I were craving cupcakes and decided to buy a few packs. We were being watched the whole time by the short lady with glasses that was working in bakery department from the time we walked into that section and left that section. I reviewed the container dates of the 5 clear containers that only consisted of Chocolate Cupcakes, at that time. All five clear containers had a "Packed Date" of 8/27 and a "Sell By Date" of 9/3. So, I picked up one container and put it in my shopping cart. I then went over to the refrigered section to review the dates on the refrigerated Vanilla and Chocolate Cupcakes containers. There were 3 Vanilla Cupcake containers with multi-color frosting, 3 Chocolate Cupcake containers with multi-color frosting and 2 Chocolate Cupcake containers with white frosting. All of the "Packed Date" stated 8/12. After seeing the packed date, I closed the refrigerator door and walked over to the chicken salad refrigerator. When I turned around to head back to bakery, I had observed the same bakery lady mentioned above walking over to the cupcake refrigerator where I once stood. She removed 7 out of 8 cupcake containers from the refrigerator and place them on the top of the cake displays counter. She walked around to the bakery area where no one could see her and began to remove the old "8/12 Packed On" labels and replaced them with new "8/29 Packed On" labels. I waited to see if she was putting out new cupcakes. I heard the old labels being removed, but wasn't 100% sure at the time. When she came from behind the counter with the newly printed label containers, she observed me but continued to place the containers on the display table. I walked back over to the display table and picked up one of the containers which I thought was Chocolate at the time of purchase but it ended up being Vanilla and they were cold. When I got home, I noticed the old label residue on the container. I pulled the new label down and there was proof that another label previously existed. I've provided four pictures on the container. 1. Before label removal 2. Upon the new label being pulled down 3. After the new label was completely removed 4. Back of new label 5. Front of new label I guess it's okay if the customer doesn't see the swapping of labels and believes they're purchasing fresh bakery products. Ms. or Mr Owner , please refrain from responding with a disingenuous message about expectations, etc. I truly believe that this wasn't the first time and won't be the last time that it's happened. I had posted my review yesterday evening under the Dedham store reviews accidentally and just realized it today. My review is for the Walpole store.

Would not recommend this location. For in store shopping but especially not for order pick up. I’m honestly baffled with our experience. We quite a few items that were ā€œout of stockā€ and a few that were replaced with items that were not similar at all. We aren’t picky and we’ve ordered from plenty of stores. I have even worked for instacart so I understand sometimes things aren’t in stock and there aren’t the best replacements. However the items that were ā€œout of stockā€ seemed like items that are almost always there. We went inside to return the bad replacements and check on the items that were ā€œout of stock.ā€ We also had to return our hamburger buns that the shopper put at the bottom of a bag…. EVERY SINGLE ITEM THAT WAS OUT OF STOCK WAS THERE. And not just there but there were PLENTY of them. I will attach pictures. Honestly just so weird and why? They need to hire better shoppers or pay them better to care more.

My experience there was not good. the seafood department the fish looks bad dry looking and old and out of date. The employees are know we’re to be found. Expired food on the shelf. Not the stop&shop I would want to go to again.

03/25/24. I'm updating my review because of the poor service at the "customer service desk" The service has degraded to an unsatisfactory level because of a lack of consistent staffing, shoddy unreliable hours of operation, and poor attitude of the staff. I've been shopping there for decades, never have I seen it this poor. Many of us shop there and used to enjoy the convenience and reliability of hours to play the lottery, buy stamps, return goods etc. that is no longer the case. Recently I was there at 11 AM to shop, buy stamps and play the lottery. The service counter had a closed sign on it and I had to go elsewhere requiring a second trip in my vehicle. Even if someone is there and in the back room, one can stand there for several minutes for someone to appear. This is totally unacceptable. Hours of operation should be clearly posted and reliably staffed with...
