Country Kitchen — Restaurant in Walpole

I called in at 3:50pm on Sunday, Oct 20. The clerk that answered said that there was "a bunch" of donuts remaining and even listed everything available. She then confirmed that they closed at 5pm. I arrived at 4:40pm to find everything packed up — not sold out, simply put away. There was only one person in the shop when I arrived, so I suspect it was the same person who answered my call. The information I was given was misleading and caused me to go out of my way for nothing, and I was not the only person turned away as another party arrived shortly after me and also left with nothing. UPDATE: John, the owner, has reached out to me as a gesture of good will and made it clear that this was not standard operating procedure and that I should have been served, regardless of whether things were packed away or not. I have updated my star rating to reflect a compromise between this experience and my prior experiences with Country Kitchen. Overall a nice looking place - the breakfast sandwiches were good, the donuts were not the best I’ve had but decent. I walked in on a Sunday morning to place a big order; the young girl taking my order kept forgetting parts of my order, I was aware that there was a line behind me but i was a paying customer and placed an $80 order and she was getting frustrated WITH ME when i told her that items from my order were missing - she also almost forgot to charge me for the dozen donuts I ordered but I kindly asked her to add it to my bill. When I asked her for the last item that she forgot to give me, she walks towards the back and yells “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?” as if I didn’t hear her, but I did. Very rude and she didn’t even say thank you. I get that businesses get busy and employees get frustrated, but as a paying customer, we like to be served with pleasant attitudes. Not sure I’d go back again as this left a bad taste...

On February 16, 2024, our journey almost led us to Denis's, but thanks to Jay at the Beaver Pond Farm stand, we discovered this hidden gem. I thoroughly enjoyed our culinary adventure. My craving for pancakes, homemade corned beef, and crispy bacon was graciously met, accompanied by a generous serving of eggs. Meanwhile, my husband opted for a simpler fare of eggs and toast. To our surprise, the portions were colossal, catching my husband off guard as he mistakenly requested a modest serving, forgetting he's not one for hearty meals. The ambiance exuded quaint charm, with the specials discreetly displayed at the back, blending seamlessly into the wall decor—a delightful detail easy to overlook.
