ASL Landscape, Hardscape and Paving Contractors — Local services in Warren Township

I really hit the jackpot when I found Bobby Adams, the owner of ASL. He didn't ask me to leave this review, but he and his team deserve the recognition and my gratitude.

I met Bobby when he gave me a quote on landscaping in my backyard after we had already hired a different contractor, who was trying to add an expensive layer to an existing project. Bobby came to my home the same day I called him. He explained to me how my current contractor was charging me double the price. He took the time to educate me about how my current contractor was skimping on things that should have been built into the original plan. He explained to me how to negotiate with my current contractor to improve the project, fix the flaws, and cut the price my landscaper quoted me in HALF. It worked! Bobby took the time to do this knowing that his advice would result in me using my original landscaper if they matched Bobby's price. Seeing how honest Bobby was, I was committed to using him for every project going forward. I didn't realize I would need him so quickly.

WATER LINE - For months, we had water issues in our front lawn and driveway. We met with multiple contractors who diagnosed it as a ground water issue. I invited Bobby over to take a look. He was convinced we had a leak in our water line (even though my bill had never increased). We did. We received some quotes and of course decided to go with Bobby/ASL. The leaks were partially located underneath a retaining wall, elevated walkway, and landscaping. The other contractors claimed they would have to dismantle the retaining wall and hardscaping to repair the leak. On the other hand, Bobby and his guys came up with a brilliant way to replace the pipe while leaving everything undisturbed. While he was at it, he noticed a crack in my sewer line, which we surmised was when our first landscaper dug an exploratory hole in that area to potentially install an underground drainage system. Bobby fixed the sewer line in addition to the water line. He did the entire project within a day - all at a fraction of the other quoted prices.

SEWER LINE - Fast forward another 2 weeks...I start getting water in a crawl space in my basement. I call Roto-Rooter, thinking there was a clog in the sewer line. When Roto-Rooter came to snake the line, they found a blockage in the sewer line they could not get past. They offered to immediately dig up my front lawn (again) and replace that area of the sewer line for a price.

I called Bobby at ASL. Within an hour, he was at my house with a camera down the sewer line. The blockage was in an entirely different location than the previous repair. The next day, Bobby and his team were at my house. They repaired the sewer line and uncovered a buried and broken plumbing cleanout pipe we didn't even know existed. His team removed the boulder stuck in my sewer line, removed the portion of the sewer line that was cracked, and fixed the cleanout pipe to raise it above the ground.

IRRIGATION SYSTEM - I also used Bobby's team to install an irrigation system in my backyard. His guys went above and beyond. In addition to the irrigation system, they replaced a leaky hose spigot and installed another PRV valve to fix our water pressure - all for a fraction of the price we received from other quotes just for the irrigation system.

DRIVEWAY - In the spring, I'll be using ASL to repave my very large driveway and perform the landscaping in the front of my home.

You will never meet a more responsive, honest, reliable, and fairly priced contractor than Bobby. His entire team is hardworking, professional, innovative, and clean. Each of them know their craft. My husband and I are so grateful to his team for saving us thousands upon thousands of dollars. He's also saved us a ton of time for future projects because I now know to not even bother seeking other quotes. We really regret not knowing him before we hired (and paid) a different contractor to perform an entire renovation of our backyard for...

I had Bobby do a pretty huge project for me. Runaway project would be a better description. It started with me wanting a paved patio and walk way. About 800 square feet. This was coming out great, so I had him add on excavation and the building of a retaining wall, I disclosed that he would ruin my in ground sprinkler system in the process and he was happy to agree to rebuild my system afterwards. At one point I decided to have him plant over 20 trees to act as a privacy fence and bring in lots of top soil / seed to help grow grass.

His price was very low on the trees, patio & top soil/seed. If I had done the top soil work myself it would have only saved me about $300. Considering it took 4 men all day with heavy machinery - this was a bargain price.

I did not shop prices on the retaining wall, but knowing the material costs involved I felt that the price was fair when I agreed to the quote, later on to feel it was low considering how long the job took (he was not slow - it’s just a very involved/labor intensive job).

Every home improvement project I have done has had a hickup or two. My philosophy is that everyone including me makes errors. The character of a person is defined by how quickly they respond to, and address these errors.

When I called Bobby to discuss the few things (which were pretty nit picky) I needed him to touch up, he agreed without hesitation. He also added a few things I didn’t notice (a paver had a cut he felt could have been more exacting). He was then quick to rectify and follow up regarding my satisfaction. This to me is huge, he truly stand behind his work and makes sure the project comes out right.

In the end the project came...

I had engaged Rob last year to fix the drains in my backyard that had constant problem with rain water accumulating. I paid $10k in the hope that the problem will be taken care of. They installed several drains in the backyard which gave me the initial impression that a decent job was done. However, when it rained a few times, I realized the drains were inaccurately installed. In several instances, the drains were just installed too high above the ground and there was no way for the water to drain out. No drain filters were installed which led to dirt and debris continuously flow into the drain causing blockage. So whatever little the drains did was also not worth it. Rob promised me 10 times that he will fix the issue and never showed up. I finally engaged another contractor and paid more to fix the shoddy job that was done. In the end, the project wasn't as complicated but had to be just done right with some common sense. I will not recommend this company for this...
