I tried to leave a complaint via the contact page at the time, and again on their FB page, and both disappeared. Someone recently suggested writing here, so I'm giving it a go.
We had been to Elm Road several times over the years and it wasn't that the screens or food was that bad, it is what I've learned is the owner. If you've been there, he is the golf car driver.
I'm sure people have tried to scheme or cheat him in the past, but what he did to our family, I'll never forget. I'll also never grace that property again.
It was Summer 2011 but I've heard he is the same, so I decided to post, again because someone recently suggested it. We would always say when we bought tickets that we had our own food and wanted to pay extra, and this time we asked about switching screens because the second movie wasn't one our family wanted to see. The kid charged us a couple dollars and told us if asked, to show a different color ticket.
We didn't even make it to the second screen before the golf cart blocked us and he started yelling about how we were cheating studios by switching screens. We tried to show the ticket and explain and he wouldn't let us talk. He got called away and told us to stay, and we did. Trust me when I saw we're not a trouble-making family.
When he came back he continued but at least let us show the ticket. He asked how much extra we paid. When we said, he said we still owed money, we were undercharged. We get out the cash and he's still yelling about how we aren't supposed to switch screens. He moves back to where my kids are seated and asks their ages. They tell him and he said they were lying. They were 7 and 12. I will never forget that. He then accused us of harboring people in the trunk. They were Adirondack chairs.
Once he took our three dollars we thought we were done. He went on the loudspeaker not only to remind people about the concession stand, but went on to tell our story, that apparently not everyone knows not to switch screens because it robs studios of money. We didn't fight him, we weren't disrespectful, the only thing we did was try to get a word in edgewise, show him the ticket, and pay. And this was our treatment.
He still wasn't done. Once we finally parked at the second screen and he made his announcement, he drove to us again. He was at the back of the car and he shouted out, "Just writing down your license plate in case I have trouble with you later."
I was so upset I couldn't even speak. I cried through the entire movie I was so upset. When the second movie was near over, long after midnight, he drove up one last time. He asked where my husband was and I pointed to the front of our car, outside, where he sat in the chair. By then he talked to the kid who registered us and it was obvious there was miscommunication, and we had told the truth all along. He never apologized, but at least in a nicer tone said we can't switch screens. Lesson learned.
Since then I've been to Skyway. They are so friendly. They interact on a regular basis through social media and try to please the customer. The prices are reasonable. To this day our youngest asks if anyone will come on a golf cart and yell at her.
Not at Skyway--where I've told everyone I know to visit for a pleasant, family-friendly...
Read morethis place is the bomb!! you can see two movies for the same price of two tickets to see ONE at cinemas! HIGHLY recommend!! THREE screens play at once and no interference! they have one screen designed for family’s and kids with a playground near which I LOVED- you never see that at mayfield rd drive in (usually bringing your own stuff to pass time until the movie is coming on). the view is amazing no matter where ur parked!! and if you don’t want to drain you car battery they have rental speakers for 5-10$ and they play just as loud!!!! me and my bf decided to do that because i didn’t want to keep turning my car back on and off every 30-60mins. now for the best thing… THEYRE CONCESSION STAND!!!! note, before you even enter the facility they give you a menu for you to choose before getting up there and are starstruck, and it is ultimate! they have everything ranging from hard scoop ice cream to hot food for a fairly good price for a drive in!!!! (and of course THE CANDY GOTTA HAV THAT)- what caught my eye in there the most when i was inside was that they have a BAR for the 21+ and they have their own self serve butter for ur popcorn unlike cinemas who do it for you! I LIKE MY BUTTER lollll so thank you Elm Road!! they have so so many picnic tables just outside of the stand to sit and eat if wanting to!! bathrooms are neat and tidy no complaints there!!! it’s kinda disgusting to go in the bathroom at mayfield rd, iykyk! and for any people who love taking pictures for memories and such, they have such a beautiful view and some fun cool history put up!! including an old time film projector by the bathrooms! SUPER COOL never seen one so up close before! i very much appreciated ALL the staff and the ticket booth workers who are INSANELY KIND AND HELPFUL!!!!! couldn’t give them enough credit for what they do for their paying customers! they deserve to have the best respect and i hope Elm Road stays open LITERALLY FOREVER!! thank you Elm Road for the most beautiful experience and a memorable night for my bf and i!! WORLDS BEST DRIVE IN...
Read moreWe have been big fans of Elm Road Triple drive in for years. It’s where we always go and the one we always recommend to others. We just made it out for the first time this year and didn’t have a good experience. We got there at 7 expecting a line and waited to get in. We do this because we drive an SUV and we know we need to be early to get a good spot. We got a spot and got parked and were told we were pulled to far through. Now last year we got a good lecture from the previous lot attendants (the older gentlemen who used to do it I guess) on how you park just past the hump on the ground that way when you get out to sit in chairs you will be sitting up on that hump so you can see. They now park you on said hump along with everyone else so even a car in front of us impaired our view badly. We also had two Chevy equinox SUVs park in front of us around 8:45 or so despite there being lots of SUV parking left. One was asked to move to another row as they were an SUV in a car row and the other got to stay. Two of the same cars that were right in the middle with one spot between them. It made no sense and yes we asked one of the parking attendants about it bc we could not see at all and he said they were fine. I guess the new rule is if you show up later you get to park wherever you please so there’s no longer a reason be get there early. There was also a can, truck and a Jeep Wrangler in that car row that I could see that all got to stay. They also no longer have people tie hatches on SUVs to roof level. So having vehicles up on an incline, SUVs in car rows and add their hatch open and up above their roof line it just isn’t overly enjoyable. We we went my sons birthday and took grandma and grandpa with us and overall left incredibly disappointed. I’d love to see the old lot attendants back they really used to do a great jobs and monitoring everyone and being sure it was enjoyable for all patrons and that’s just not the case with the younger gentlemen...
