I had an amazing experience at the Washburn hardware store. I was in town for a serenity trip, grieving a loss, spending time along Lake Superior paddle boarding and taking long beach walks with my puppy. I was having trouble with my new paddle board. The pump would not stay attached to the board. I had to work super hard to get it to 80%. I went to the hardware store hoping to find a electric pump. Greg was at the counter, And after some consideration he told me they didn't have anything that would help me. Normally that would have been the end of the encounter, but Greg offered to come out to my Subaru and take a look at my paddle board. He spent almost 10 minutes, and figured out that my pump had the rubber washer upside down!!! I would never have been able to use that pump. He totally saved my trip!! Thank you so much, Greg. You know when you’re putting something off because you think it’s going to be awful? As a casual cyclist, I often procrastinate on bike repairs, because I’ve had some encounters with bike experts that made me feel stupid. Today, I was forced to swallow my pride and call Washburn Hardware, where I had one of the very BEST customer service experiences of my life. The bike tech, Eric, was friendly (I love when I call somewhere and it seems like they actually want to talk to me), approachable and patient. He got my bike in immediately and went above and beyond answering my questions and showing me how to adjust several things on my bike. I appreciate Nate, who is also welcoming and kind, and enjoyed a seasonal bonus of some hot apple cider. I’ve found my bike repair place for life!!! I like all his staff except for the tall guy. I spend quite a bit of money at hardware stores and lumber yards, as I'm always building 10 different things. I had a few bad experiences with Mate and then lost my temper and screamed. That's why I knocked off two stars. Since then, every time I go there, I find him friendly and helpful, although I usually do avoid his store if I can, but I'm starting to feel better about the place. Maybe a 5 star sometime...
