This site, I believe, was built by or rather for the American Legion. It was wiped out by hurricane Katrina and rebuilt to be wiped out again by hurricane Isaac. There are the seals of all the armed forces around a flag pole, benches to sit on. The memorial area is maintained and the grass cut. Years ago there was a breakwater here if I recall. After all of the veterans' memorials I have stopped at around the country this is the first one I recollect having a burn pit for retired flags. Some have had collection boxes but never a burn pit.

Walked through as we were taking a stroll with the toonies along the beach on a cold and windy day. Was a nice little memorial but had a lot of weather damage. I'm sure they will fix it back up before the tourist season arrives.

Loved the park location and layout with the area to retire colors at the end of their service. Great view to reflect on being a veteran and appreciate others who have served. Great job, Waveland and all the community organizations who supported this veteran celebration...
