I attended a wine and book pairing event while I was attending the Hollihock Writers Conference in New Bedford, MA. I really enjoyed the event so much so to where I will be in touch with Beth about bringing this type of event out to where I am based. She is so knowledgeable about the books and drinks she curates. She is very mindful about what we, as readers, are looking to create in terms of an experience when we immerse ourselves in a book. Beth also chose a diverse range of genres and had a great representation of authors of different racial and ethnic backgrounds and gender. As someone who works with queer youth, I can't overstate how refreshing it is to have Hygge House in our community. When our LGBTQ+ teens walk in, they see their experiences and selves reflected. In a time when book bans target queer voices, this shop stands firm. They center banned books, making sure queer stories stay accessible. Their Book Nook program creates free little libraries in underutilized community spaces (because everyone deserves great reads!).
