I have to start by saying our family is a bit of an aficionado when It comes to attending these holiday frights. We have been all over New England for the past 10 years or so trying to visit every single one we can. Witches Woods has been on our list for a long time and for some reason every year we just couldn't make it. This year we finally made our way there and we were super excited. If you are unfamiliar witches Woods takes place at nashoba ski valley which I thought had pretty good potential for a good scare site. They have four hauntings, a free pumpkin carving walkthrough and a free movie set walkthrough. They also have a little carnival going on with some rides and carnival food. We bought our tickets online for all four hauntings and received free wristbands for unlimited rides. However we did not go on the rides because the way the flow is set up the last two attractions were too far away from the rides and much closer to our cars and weren't worth the hassle going all the way back to go on a couple rides. The first haunting we went through was a 3D haunting. Other than some 3D paint splashed on the walls and on the actors there really wasn't much going on in here. The actors tried and some more than others but it was hard to get a good scare as the people ahead of us would get the scared before us and we would get the aftermath which if you've been to one or two of these events you know you have to get the first scare in order to be scared. It was a fairly quick walk through and again nothing really jumped out, No pun intended, to make it exciting. We then walked past the rides as we wanted to wait in all the lines first and originally we thought we would come back for the rides. We went all the way to the other end of the attractions where there was the haunted castle called "Castle Morbid". The castle was a cool little idea and there were some rooms that were really neat and some of the actors did provide a good scare and acted really well. Some were even funny. I would say this was our second favorite as it was a little bit longer, a little darker and have a little more volume to it than the others. Next you have to go across the parking lot to the other side of the ski lodge to go on what we were expecting to be the best part of witches woods,"The Haunted Hayride". After a quick wait in line we were lucky enough to get ourselves on the back of the hayride, which I should advise there is no hay on the hayride, it's just a flatbed with a place to put your feet. Anyway, what they do is take you through the woods and explain this story of a girl who went missing named Rose. The actors did well and did a good job especially for the back of the hayride. I would suggest trying to go to the back. They were loud some were scary and some got quite close. This was probably our favorite attraction as it provided a nice little scare along with a nice ride and a good backstory. Lastly we went on the "Vampires Passage". This was a long walk in a dark woods but was ruined because we were overloaded into the group ahead of us. The group was too large so the first six or seven people in the group got the scare and we were the last five or six people and received a no scare at all. We basically walked through the whole thing without any actors coming up to us which was really sad. We just got some really bad luck and I would suggest they make sure they are scaring everyone because this made the walk very aggravating especially if you have kids waiting to get scared and they get nothing. So this is why I gave it a overall score of two. We waited years to go here and it was quite expensive. We used promo code "Dangelo" which save this about $50. So for a family of four we paid $136. I can tell you we definitely won't be back again and we can only wonder if we missed the best years when we weren't able to go and got the worst when we...
Read moreThis has to be the worst haunted attraction I've ever been to. I paid for four bundles which included four haunted houses, a haunted hayride, and unlimited rides. The first problem happened receiving my tickets. I paid for four and only received three, mentioned it to the lady who just looked at me lost and confused and never corrected the issue. I asked someone else and she decided to just take the next customer. The unlimited rides were actually only three carnival rides and a trampoline type harnessed bounce for kids. To get on the rides you need to apparently make sure a worker has decided to do their jobs as they kept leaving the rides unattended which would mean you now only have two rides to choose from. 3D Haunted Attraction - the paint job and special effects were that of an elementary school putting on a haunt in the playground. Walking through it took just over 2 minutes and that was at a slow pace. They packed 10 people to a group which meant anyone up front was skipped over because the half dozen workers trying to scare you were only focused on the back of the group. Overall: Terrible. Haunted Mansion - This one took just under 3 minutes to walk through and apparently none of the workers inside cared to scare us, the closest attempt was a zombie coming up to my face and saying "hi cousin." I didn't realize I paid for a haunted comedy. Overall - Awful Haunt 3 - this one was so bad I can't even remember it's name. Workers inside were just randomly screaming, not sure how that scares anyone when you are screaming before I even get close to you. Group size was 13 people and this one seemed to be the shortest of all. With the most confused workers. Near the exit a worker stood all 5' tall in my way. Is that supposed to be scary or is that their way of extending the length of the haunted house. Overall - Horrible. Vampires - A miniature trail through the woods. Takes maybe three minutes to get through. No jump scares, no scares at all. All the workers make hissing or faint grunting noises, but stand in places where you see them way before you can hear their sad attempts at scary noises. Overall - Despicable Haunted Hayride - I think whoever came up with this one should be fired. You don't get a hayride. You sit on a completely flat flatbed that is being pulled by a tractor. You get a tour guide who is the only one standing on the flatbed. This person literally talks the whole time in a monotone voice and begins the process of putting you to sleep to cover up the fact that the workers will only focus on the parts of the trucks where all girls are sitting or groups of screamers are sitting. I wasted what felt like eternity listening to the worst storyteller of all time followed by pathetic workers trying to impress little kids and girls. Overall - Pathetic
My advice is go to any other haunted house, the one in your town that cost like $10 is probably better than this. Save your money and go literally anywhere else. Worst haunted attraction experience I...
Read moreI went with my daughter and her partner. We got there early assuming the place would be mobbed. It was. Lots of teenagers.
Parking was smooth, there were a lot of attendants directing cars. Getting the tickets from will call was easy. We got a paper ticket and wrist band. Not sure what the wrist band was actually for as no one looked at it, but ok.
We hit the trail first and had a whacky narrator named Snuggles the clown who was a lot of fun, but the storyline seemed similar to when I worked there 15 years ago. Snuggles had no power for thei r microphone but handled it like a champ.
The trail ride was fun and the sets were great! Some of the actors were really committed and some were blah- no energy. Overall the trail was really well done! Oh- beware of the guy sliding on his knees. Scared the crap out of us a few times!
Next we went to Vampire Passage since it was next to the trail- that was really fun and the actors followed me without my knowing and scared me several times! It was dark and foggy. Just perfect!
I will say the walkthrough Horrorwood and Pumpkin Jamboree was meh. Been there seen that. On the way back there was an actor on stilts that was mesmerizing and she made a difference in the vibe.
We then went to Castle Morbid. The line was long here- but not terrible. What was terrible was the teenager behind us who said Bro at the beginning and ending of every sentence. EVERY SENTENCE. He even annoyed his friend by the end he was telling him to stop talking. Castle Morbid gets me every time. I will admit, I peed my pants a little in this haunt.
Onto the porta potty! No need to elaborate here. You know where I am going with this.
Lastly we went to the 3d walkthrough which had no line. This is my least favorite and in most need of an update. Really bad. Even the vibe in line was dull.
On the way out we saw a funhouse. No one was there so we went in and some girl that followed us crashed into one of the class walls. Not hurt and really funny. Slid down the slide and away we went to our cars and headed home with memories of silly and scary things heard and said!
Well done WW, but it may be time for a slight change. Some of your competitors are doing...
