I’ve been a proud patron of Curtis Liquors for what feels like forever, and let me just say this place is the definition of a “no-disappointment zone.” If there’s an adult equivalent of a candy store, this is it. You walk in, and suddenly, an entire wonderland of wines, spirits, and more beckons you like the siren song of a perfectly chilled Chardonnay.
The real magic, though, is the staff. I’m convinced they’re secretly wine wizards—maybe they’re graduates of some Hogwarts-like school of viniculture. I’ll walk in, cluelessly muttering, “I want something new,” and before I know it, they’re peppering me with questions about my taste in grapes, regions, body, tannins—you name it. It’s like they read my mind, but they do it in the most professional, non-creepy way possible. When they hand me a bottle, it’s practically gift-wrapped in a bow of expert knowledge, and it never disappoints.
But let’s not pigeonhole them as merely wine aficionados; they’re just as well-versed in everything else that wets your whistle. From craft beers you’ve never heard of (but will instantly love) to top-shelf whiskeys for special occasions—or regular Tuesdays, no judgment—they’ve got you covered. Ever wonder about the difference between a Speyside and an Islay Scotch? They’ll break it down in a way that’s actually fun and not at all snooze-worthy. Suddenly, you’ll be dropping terms like “peaty undertones” and feeling like you could host a spirits segment on the Food Network.
Over the years, I’ve asked more questions than a curious toddler, and the staff members have never once run out of patience—or intriguing recommendations. Whether you’re brand new to the world of wine or a seasoned collector searching for a rare gem, you’ll feel right at home. Plus, they’ll never judge you if all you want is that old standby bottle that pairs perfectly with pizza and Netflix.
If you’re worried about your wallet, don’t panic; their selections run the gamut from budget-friendly finds to “I-just-hit-the-lottery” splurges. And no matter what you pick, you’ll walk away with the satisfying confidence that you made a wise choice (and maybe you learned a fun fact or two about grape cultivation in some far-flung corner of the planet).
In short, Curtis Liquors is more than just a store—it’s an experience. I’ve been going for years, and I can’t imagine stopping anytime soon. If you find yourself in the area, do yourself a favor: walk in, ask a million questions, and let the staff guide you to your next favorite bottle. Trust me, you’ll leave happy, educated, and ready to impress your friends at your next dinner party. Or, you know, your next cozy night at...
Read moreCurtis is the best package store on the south shore. Hands down.
Since moving to Weymouth nearly four years ago, I knew Curtis was a pretty big store with a lot to offer. But in the past 18 months, their spirit and beer selection has grown so much. I find beers I’ve only heard/read about on the shelves with plenty of inventory. If I ever need a specific beer, I can let Joe know and he will order it if it is available. No specific amount required. Awesome!
In terms of whiskey, they have a ton. I love bourbon and it seems their back cabinet is always stocked with some hard to find bottles. Some are now on my top shelf at home.
The staff is always super helpful and nice. The store is clean and always stocked. I never go elsewhere for my booze needs. Curtis...
Read moreI am shopping there quite frequently and without the id issues that the other reviewer had. Generally said I think it's anyway not the store's fault, but those ridiculous anti-alcohol laws that make stores fear they could loose their license any moment. That said I think this is by far the best wine store in the area; with good prices and even some folks who know what they are selling - something I have otherwise only come across in fancy stores in Brookline or Beacon Hill (but with prices 20-30% higher) The only minus to me is that they sometimes close five minutes early, just those five minutes that some times could have made a cozy evening perfect. Still - this store is my recommendation to any South...
