Great Midwest Train Show — Local services in Wheaton

This is a great train show that has been around for years. Plenty of vendors and lots of space. In the warmer months, there are outdoor tables. Otherwise, there are at least 4 buildings, wall to wall with trains. Lots of running layouts to watch and everyone is more than willing to discuss your project(s). All scales represented but the smaller scales do not have quite the number of vendors (which is normal). The aisles of vendors are wide enough to allow room to navigate even when it is really crowded (and it often is).

There is food available onsite and it is not horribly overpriced. Plenty of parking available.

Be aware though - if you need cash on site, the ATMs charge $4.50 per transaction. Better to get your cash beforehand. The ATMs are a private company at the site for all events and are not affiliated...

A great show for people who are looking for hard to find pieces for Model Railroading! I would say get there earlier (before 12 or 1) to ensure the maximum number of vendors. BRING CASH! Also the show takes place in 5 buildings at the Dupage County fair grounds and admission is 5 buck for adults and I THINK free for kids. You can find stock new and old, of most scales, models to books to photos. Everything for the modeler both young and old. There is also a small amount of military models and ship models but trains are the bread & butter.

The Great Midwest Train Show is a fantastic event for model railroad hobbyists of ALL ages AND scales. There are 5 buildings and weather permitting sometimes a few outdoor tables. While there ARE a few layouts with running trains, this is more of a flea market for model trains of all sorts, and you can sometimes find model cars and airplanes as well. You can find TONS of N, HO, S, O, and G gauge items, including videos, magazines, and all manner of railroad paraphernalia. This includes both scale models as well as toy trains.

Sellers can be private sellers OR businesses. It is recommended to walk around for a bit to compare prices...
