Gene's Tahquamenon General Store — Local services in Whitefish Township

I got caught up in the beauty of the UP and forgot to get gas before losing track of time at the beach. I called the store to see if they keep their pumps on past close (I’m from a state where that is common, and was unaware it’s not allowed here) and not only did she inform me that gas stations are only allowed to keep their pumps on while attended (open) in the nicest way, which saved me from wasting time calling other places… she also let me know they’re actually OPEN UNTIL 10 PM (Google won’t approve her request for the correct hours to be posted) and saved me from driving an hour out of my way as well. While I shopped she was friendly, and helpful and didn’t judge me for not knowing how I was supposed to show her how much gas I pumped on the cool old school gas pumps they have here 😅 The shop itself has a really good selection for being a general store, and has some cool finds in there to check out as well. Owner was phenomenal! We rolled in late and the firewood vending machine at the state park at our money and gave us no wood. The owner of the general store made several calls to try to find us wood. When all failed she gave us her own wood. Then...there was the pizza. It was the best damn pizza I had in a long time. Stopped for gas - they were 30 cents per gallon cheaper than anyone else. I walked in to pay and the aroma of that dang pizza hit me. Of course I saw the sign saying pizza but lots of gas stations say they have pizza. I left to check in at the campground and couldn't stop thinking about that dang pizza. Of course I went back. Glad I did. This is five star pizza anywhere in the world, for a gas station in the middle of nowhere, y'all, save yourself a trip and get it while you're there.
