Not a good night at the track for the Nielsen family! Track President Andy Hess said āFans make the show.ā Well he doesnāt care about fans. I will NOT be coming back. Letās start with the no reentry. My family of 5 is particular about our seats. My son (9) is neurodivergent (More on my son later, this is the biggest issue.) We try to sit up high and have him in the middle between the rest of the family. He doesnāt like people behind him. I have a blanket and bungee cords to get our seats. There was no reentry. My carsā thermometer said it was 91 degrees out. Last year at the exact same race reentry was allowed. I go back to the car, we sat in the car until 6:15 to go get our seats. I was told by a worker that the reason for the new rule is because people at intermission would go to their cars and pass alcohol over the fence to violate the no alcohol policy. Just to show you that Iām not just complaining, I have a solutionā¦hire more security to monitor that issue! Station a guard where the alcohol gets passed. I am assuming itās between the restrooms and the concession stand. They have this new rule on reentry thatās very important because people are using it to hurt their beer sales. Protecting beers sales is the only rule they care about. DONāT BRING IN BEER, BUT BRING ALL THE WEED YOU WANT IT!! The weed laws in Michigan makes this situation more prevalent, but maybe if you let people bring in beer I wouldnāt have to worry about my children getting a contact high! They have a rule about only soft sided coolers. Is that rule enforced? Absolutely not. I have attached images of hard coolers, including one in the aisle way. Safe place to put it! Second issue smoking. The man in front of us smoked. I asked him to please smoke elsewhere he responded that he was, ā86 years old, Iāve been on the track board for 55 years, I was a flag man for 23 years so Iāve earned the right to a cigarette.ā He continued to smoke when he felt like. Now the big issue. My car was blocked it. They made announcements about it to move your cars. They then read off the license plate numbers to get people to move their cars, they threatened to tow the cars. They did nothing!! Of course they didnāt all they care about is beer sales. My son is neurodivergent he hates fireworks. I knew there would be fireworks but I figured if we left before them it would be a minor issue. But we were blocked in. My wife pleaded with security to tow the cars blocking us in. They did nothing. So my son had a meltdown because of the fireworks. My wife was in tears and I as the husband was helpless. So thank Whittemore Speedway for a truly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is being run right into extinction. When I was a kid, the track was the place to be. Stands and the pits were full of fans and racers. Now it's a very sad show.
I figured out why last Saturday. The people that run this place are terrible to their fans. We walked to the gates of the pits and were told we had to wait for the last race to finish to walk in. We waited until the cars shut off and started walking in. All 3 of the people in the ticket box came out yelling at us. Accused us of sneaking in. These people are the reason the track is failing and will eventually close altogether. ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Whittemore Speedway is a fun Saturday night up north for the whole family. Without knowing much about the racers, classes, or vehicles we had fun watching the cars roar by on the oval track. Plenty of free parking and bleacher seating. My niece rode the Magic Bus around the track at intermission and loved it. Definitely worth a visit if you are...
