First the good.
Great location Nice covered storage options with power (why we tried them) Lots of level room to navigate the storage areas Dump station on site.
Now the bad.
Dump station is not as nice as Anchor's. Wilder Storage dump station port is up-hill from where you park, the rinse hose leaks everywhere when turned on, and the port is situated such that if a spill or leak does happen, it will run into the storm sewer not the sewer port.
Pricing is higher than Anchor Storage in Florence for equivalent size storage. In addition, electricity is double for access to the power, min $20 a month vs $10 at Anchor. Both charge per kWhr as well. (Outside is flat rate $20 though)
The covered outdoor storage area offers power. Anchor DOES NOT OFFER THIS. This is a huge PLUS to keep expensive batteries topped off. However, the power will NOT work with a motorhome. We needed a month of storage for our 2015 Tiffin 45' Allegro Bus but the power trips immediately after being plugged in. I've boondocked and camped at unimproved campgrounds with 15 amp service many times and have never had any issues. I plug into 15 amp GFCI service at my house and my parents house with no issue. In fact my house circuit is shared with ceiling lighting in the kitchen, but the Bus has the ability to limit current draw using an energy management system and I've never tripped a breaker, except here. All we wanted was to keep the charger on the batteries (Expensive Lifeline AGM units).
The power for the covered storage is new, maybe they used poor quality GFCI or Arc Fault circuits. No one was using the power there when I was there (It is $20 a month after all), so I don't think they'd know they have an issue. In fact one gentleman there brought a generator with him to plug his trailer into while I was there. Wilder Storage's resolution to this was to call an electrician who ran 2 resistance loads (microwave and drill) and said the circuit was fine. They will have more issues like this in the future though. Instead of seeking to actually fix when alerted to this, see below:
If this were the end of the story, they'd still get a 3 to 4 star review from me. It is not however the end of the story. When we first arrive to plug in, the electrical outlet was locked. Luckily we were there when the office people were there. We had to call, then wait for someone to come unlock it. She left immediately. I plugged in and the power wasn't on. By this time it started to rain. I called and asked for breaker to be turned on. She said she wasn't going to do it until the rain stopped. 30-40 minutes later she came out and flipped on the breaker and left. I don't mean left the area, I mean left the facility and didn't ask if it worked. It did not. It immediately tripped. The next morning I went to talk to Sam, the manager, and he apologized somewhat and offered to look at it, but continuously said the cause was drawing too much current. No amount of explanation was enough to convince him there was a problem until I said I want to move out and get my money back (1 day after move in). Once I said this he offered to have an electrician check it. I said I'd stay if they found an issue and promised to fix it. Instead they tested with resisitive loads and called it a day. I moved out that day. Now, 15 days after charging my card (Sept 1), and 9 days after moving out of my 1 day stay (Sept 6), and I still don't have a refund.
If they make good on the refund. I'll update this review. I do not recommend the covered storage area if you need any type of power however, and this part of the review will stand. Otherwise I would definitely stay here in a covered unit if it was price competitive with Anchor.
UPDATE: I got the refund, but no...
Read moreUnits are clean and very nice. Staff is friendly and polite. Loved the remote entry/exit via smart phone. The unit I rented did not have electric, not a deal breaker. Unit easily accessible for my boat and wash station was perfect touch. Also loved the close proximity to Fredericks Landing launch ramp (FL). If you store you boat here use FL and get the yearly pass from the City of Wilder. Worth the extra cost.
Each unit is completely enclosed! BIG DEAL! no access from adjoining side units. (other facilities have walls that go up 10-12 feet). So! Secure all the way around (great touch, trust me!) Garage door a little heavy for initial lifting, but there is a chain on side to assist up/down. Concrete floors in each unit (at least mine did) not gravel
If you looking for a secure and I do mean secure and safe place to store your boat or property,. Gated both entry and exit, lots of cameras. This place is AWESOME! I would highly recommend...
Read moreI had a storage unit here for over 5 years. Even though sometimes I went into Auction status, I never felt my personal items were in jeopardy. The fees for being late are a little high, but the staff will work with you so your unit stays secure. Adriana and Sam do a great job. Although they cannot make corporate decisions on sight, they are diligently working for the best for each customer. The facility is safe, secure and spotless. Moisture and Bug free, all my items were the same as the day I stored them. Adriana has a heart for each customer and is very personal. Sam maintains the corporate policies. The only thing I would improve, is the coffee they serve. You will not be dissatisfied with acquiring a unit in this facility. I highly recommend it...
