Since the HI-Wilder is almost brand new, one would expect it to be very clean and comfortable. And this hotel is all that. However, being in the Cincinnati area for surgery at the Laser Spine Institute, we expected a little more consideration from the management and staff since they are partnered with LSI as one of the area hotels that are recommended by LSI.
We checked in at the HI-Wilder the night before my surgery in order to be close by for an early morning appointment at LSI the next day. This hotel is one on the LSI list of local establishments with which they have a relationship, and therefore, we expected a little more consideration from them when we made them aware of why we were staying there. As stated above, the rooms are comfortable and well appointed, but as “suites” they are a bit wanting.
So, the next day, we left the hotel by 9:00 am for my 10:00 am appointment. Because LSI was running behind for reasons beyond their control, we did not return until 4:45 pm after my surgery. Since we had seen the cleaning staff on our floor when we left at 9:00 am, we completely expected that our room would be cleaned and ready for me to relax and recuperate after my surgery. But to our surprise, the room had not been touched! No clean sheets to lie on after having back surgery, no clean towels to use in the process of keeping my surgical area iced and comfortable! We were completely caught off guard and perplexed at why our room had not been prepared to receive a patient from LSI post-surgery, even though the management of the hotel, and the cleaning staff had been advised of our situation, which was why we were staying there to begin with.
The next day, upon checking out, we discussed the matter with the manager on duty, and she referred us to the General Manager who happened to be there at the time. When my wife tried to discuss our concerns with the GM, she immediately became confrontational, giving us numerous excuses as to why we didn’t receive the services we expected, even though they supposedly have a close relationship with LSI. My wife is one of the most reasonable and level-headed people I know, and usually, I am the one who needs reigning in, but the GM at Holiday Inn and Suites, Wilder, KY, was the most aggressive, disrespectful and odious person we have run into in quite a while. I only hope that it was because she was having a bad day (worse than mine after a major back surgery), and not what would normally be expected at ANY motel/hotel chain that we frequent.
I would say that if this is the kind of treatment one expects to receive from Holiday Inn and Suites, you should, go ahead and pay a little bit more and stay with one other of the hotels that are recommended by LSI.
We will NEVER/EVER spend our money at this establishment again! Of course, you are welcome to spend your money as you see fit, but I hope you will pay attention to our review and our experience as...
Read moreANTS...WARNING!!!! Upon first glance, our room was clean and updated and felt new. We chose this hotel mainly because it was listed as having an indoor pool for our young daughter to enjoy. However, we were disappointed for a number of reasons. First of all, the pool was tiny and cold. She tried it twice and lasted only about 5 minutes each time. We were on the third floor and could easily hear people walking above us. This hotel is located across from a storage facility with a nice view of a hill if you can overlook the storage buildings in front of the hill. Please note that there is nothing else close to this hotel such as a gas station or fast food restaurant. It is literally off an exit on a hill beside a Hampton. The biggest disappointment was ants! Yes, ants! It was actually shocking to see them crawling through our suitcases as we picked up off the floor to start packing up. .... there was also no food anywhere in our suitcases! Upon consulting the front desk, the manager told us that the hotel has been infested with ants and that they have tried their best to get rid of them with the exterminator. If the hotel knows ants are a problem, why would they still put people in rooms? Greed? Traveling home, we literally had ants crawling on our bodies from out of the luggage we had taken into the hotel! My daughter was having a fit in the backseat! We paid extra to get a nice hotel for our daughter to enjoy, but ended up having a nightmare experience because of the ants! The hotel did refund us but that will not take away from my feelings that they should not be booking rooms until they get the ant problem under control! And I seriously hope we don't develop an ant problem in our house from the luggage we bring in...
Read moreThis was an absolute nightmare. I wasn't going to write a review, but this was such a disturbing and embarrassing stay. We had been on the road for almost half a year and we were going to return home in the morning to move back into our house and just wanted a good night sleep before our family moved back into our house. But that absolutely did not happen because a police man was banging on our door as loud as he possibly could and questioned us about making an inappropriate phone call to the front desk. He woke up my 11, 9, and 7 year old and questioned my husband when we were half asleep which was absolutely ridiculous. And it was totally uncalled for. It just makes me sick. I'm sure that the young lady at the front desk was scared by whatever kind of call she received, but it wasn't from OUR ROOM, obviously!. But this was handled SO UNPROFESSIONALLY by the police and the staff. If someone actually looked at where the phone call was coming from they would have known that it obviously did not come from our room. To top it off there were like 3 to 4 staff members in the morning who were just hanging out at a table all morning during breakfast, apparently getting paid. The only good thing I will say is that the woman who worked overnight was friendly, professional and seemed to have a good handle on her job! It was quite a stark difference from the rest of our experience. We should at least got a discount and a MAJOR apology for accusing my family of making juvenile prank phone calls and sending the police to our room and frightening...
