So glad this exists only 20 mins from my house. I’ve lived in Finland, Norway, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where sauna culture is strong, and Utah just doesn’t get it, all the gyms have disgusting, cold “saunas” that have signs that say “don’t pour water on the rocks!” (which effectively makes it not a sauna). This is the real deal, and one of the better ones I’ve ever used. It can get as hot as you want it, and the addition of the cold plunge and bucket is great for cooling off between sauna sessions.
The lighting and speakers (which are voice controlled and linked to Spotify) make for a very nice vibe, and the view of Willard Peak and the mountains on the horizon to the west make for an epic backdrop.
The benches are constructed at the perfect height to get you into the hot zone, with 2 tiers for folks that don’t want it quite as hot. And access to the state park bathrooms 200ft away makes it extra convenient.
If you’re reading this review and wondering if you’ll like if, just go, especially if you’ve only been to one of the local gym chain “saunas”, this is completely different and you can actually get a proper sweat and feel relaxed when you leave. Also, the price is great especially if you get the 12 session membership, which makes it actually cheaper than comparable saunas around the Great Lakes/upper Midwest. Easy access with the code emailed to you, and during the week if you go early it’s easy to have a private session before more people discover...
Read moreWhat a great experience #willardbaysauna! I am glad I saw the advertisement on FB and decided to give it a try! This is new so they are still fine tuning and adding details to make it better with each visit. We were lucky enough to have it to ourselves.
Weather your soaking up the heat in the sauna, cooling off in the ice bath or dropping cold ice water all over body-you can't go wrong-this was an hour well spent! Make sure you try everything!
A few tricks-there is a fast fill handle on the building to aid in filling the bucket, don't oversteam the sauna, take time to cool.off and make sure you drink plenty of water.
The only downside I can honestly say is the restrooms. These are provided by the State Park. This is great, but they really could use a sweep. Knowing that this time of year, the use is primarily guests of the sauna-I am sure there is no maintenance. Us locals know the bug situation at Willard Bay, even in the cooler temps. Nothing fancy, just a quick sweep to get the bugs off the floors and surfaces. I am sure as things pick up, this may be something that is mentioned more.
Daniel was great! Communication was quick easy and information was sent with all the information needed to have an enjoyable relaxing time.He made sure our visit was perfect-we will definitely be there again!
Definaley check it out #willardbaysauna -you can't...
Read moreWhat a lovely little surprise at Willard Bay State Park! We enjoyed all the amenities offered. There is one sauna house that as of this review (5/9/25) provides community slots throughout the day for six people (be aware it could be random folks showing up with their own reservation, though you can see how many slots are reserved on the website and no one else was signed up for our slot) or later evening private reservations for the entire sauna for a party of up to 6 people. We were grateful for the Bluetooth speaker to stream our own relaxing music, and for the salt scrub and essential oils. We were careful to rinse after using these with the refreshing water bucket "shower" before switching over to the cold plunge. The latter, though chilly (at 60 degrees at 3pm in May) wasn't exceptionally cold given the sunny, warm weather and I would think a desire to not tax energy resources makes it more difficult to keep super cold at this time of year (unless I missed an ice chest somewhere!) I can only imagine how cold it can be at other times of the year! All in all, we found it to be a good value for the 75 minutes we enjoyed. Make sure to bring at least 2 of your own towels and a...
