Designs By Don is my go-to-local florist and I definitely recommend them. Back in '07 and '08 when I went to prom I got my corsage and date's boutonnière there (calla lilies, nicely done), and more recently I had to get two funeral arrangements and they did a very nice job of making them compliment each other. This Valentine's day my partner (who lives abroad) sent me flowers after doing his own web research and he decided on Designs by Don, too (he was impressed by the website compared to others). The reason I'm giving 4/5 stars is because they lack enough sustainable options. I spoke to the friendly employees when I was getting the funeral arrangements and they said that in the winter there is basically nothing, and that funeral arrangements have to use the florists foam (not biodegradable, breaks down into microplastics, made from formaldehyde which is toxic and creates toxic wastewater) unless you opt for the spray-type arrangements. I respect the challenges of seasonality but I think there could be more awareness of which flowers are imported vs from domestic greenhouses, from how far away they are shipping, organically grown options, etc. I have experiences with other florists and I know there are many options out there so I'd like to see Designs by Don expand into this space. Once they do, I can become a "flowers for no particular reason" customer but until then I'll only be purchasing when necessary. My 98 year old Nana's birthday was coming up and I wanted to give her the best flowers she's ever received in her 98 years of living. This would be the last year sending her flowers as she is under hospice care. I called and talked to Megan and started crying thinking about that. I told her the type of person my Nana is and how important and special this needs to be. I gave her a price to work with and man, did they deliver! The flowers were delivered the same day and I got a call from my Nana and she said they were the best flowers she's ever received! She couldn't stop gushing over them. She couldn't understand how so many flowers could fit inside a single vase. She couldn't stop thanking me. I will remember this moment forever as I'm so happy that I can do this for my Nana. Thank you so much to Kat and the entire DBD Florist team for creating and delivering safely a beautiful dishgarden for Parents' Day! My ordering experience was very smooth and the florist team went above and beyond in honoring my requested ribbon colors and specific flowers. And when I asked about arranging a specific delivery time the day before, Kat responded quickly and kindly to accommodate my needs despite my late notice. From ordering to delivery, I felt that my order was very well cared for and the communication from the DBD florist was excellent.
