Lemon Fair — Local services in Winchester

This is an institution of Sewanee's downtown. I grew up spending my allowance here on trinkets, as an adult coming here for any last minute gifts, and always shopped with the knowledge I can leave with a gift that reminds me of home. When I saw it had been sold and remodeled I had high hopes. After my visit today I left disappointed. It's as if the soul of the store has been whitewashed away. Gone are the tapestries, eclectic jewelry, and (most) of the local wares. In it's place is a sparse store filled with items that can be found in any gift shop in any college town or tourist destination. I just came back to the Mountain and am thrilled to find the new version of Lemon Fair! Don’t get me wrong, the version of my undergrad days was great (I’m sure as a store that has been around for 50 years there are other versions), but I think this one is the best and most in line with modern Sewanee.
