I have been to this restaurant four other times and it has been good. I went there yesterday for Mother's Day because I like the atmosphere and being able to sit outside and it was a beautiful day. My husband ordered a pepperoni and bell pepper pizza, and I ordered a sub sandwich with some shrimp civechi. Well they brought my husband's pizza out really quick but it was missing the pepperoni. The reason for that was because the girl who was wearing a butterfly costume that took the order did not put it into the computer but she was able to repeat it to us verbally so I don't know why it did not get inputted into the computer. But we shared our concern and they fixed it. Well as my husband is sitting there eating the pizza I still have not received my food. Well I went ahead and ate a couple pieces of his pizza because I was really hungry. I sat there and sat there and then my husband went in to see what was going on because they should really never serve food separately when you have two people eating together. WELL....They forgot to make MY order, the sandwich and shrimp civechi. So as my husband was standing there and they gave him the shrimp civechi and he brought it out to me. I told him to cancel the sandwich and get a refund because I wasnt hungry anymore after eating pizza. He went back in to cancel this sandwich but they were already making it. So they gave us the sandwich and a refund which I'm grateful for and appreciate. What I didn't like was the excuses given that it was Mother's day and they were soooo busy blah blah blah. I just cannot understand how you forget to make a sandwich and the shrimp civechi when it's all on the same ticket as the pizza. Then when I got home and opened the sandwich, there was barely any meat, or anything on that. It was more bread than anything else and for $11.50 that is ridiculous. They did not take pride in that. They were just trying to hurry up and get it done because they made the mistake. Then I was watching this guy who actually ordered before us and he got a pitcher of beer and he was sitting outside waiting for his food. He also had to go ask them about his food and then they brought out the wrong food to him. We heard him say you know what I'm just going to eat it because I am hungry. My point in sharing this story is if you want to go to this place, go when it's not a holiday or super busy. They apparently can't handle the stress of being busy because they made a lot of mistakes yesterday. My advice to this establishment is when you know it's going be a holiday season and busy, have a staff meeting on how you're going to handle and how you're going to proceed on a busy day and to communicate. Don't sit there and tell your customers all these excuses instead of just owning it and...
Read moreMy family and I have been coming to Sewanee for several years and we always eat dinner one night at Shenanigans, so it pains me to write this review. The past couple of years, the quality of service, cleanliness, and atmosphere have declined dramatically.
We stopped by early evening, about 6 p.m., on Black Friday for dinner. Not too crowded and not too long a wait for food. However, there was no ice in fountain drink machine and when I pointed that out to the young lady taking orders, she looked at me and shrugged. No one make any effort to fill the ice and I saw customer after customer getting fountains drinks with no ice. The diet coke in the fountain was flat. I didn't bother pointing that out, as I knew nothing would be done about it. Two of the dressings were completely empty and obviously had been for some time. The place was not clean, as evidenced by an overflowing tub of dirty dishes on top of the indoor trash can. Lastly, music was blaring so loudly from the kitchen at one point that it was like listening to a battle of the bands (the restaurant sound system vs. the kitchen stereo).
Our last trip to Shenanigans this fall was more of the same, so our experience wasn't a one off or a bad night.
Clearly, the owner is absent or if present, has little interest in training staff to properly run a restaurant and perform basic customer service related tasks like filling empty condiments, taking dirty dishes to the kitchen, and servicing the only fountain drink station in the restaurant. Honestly, it's sad because we have had many fun nights and good experiences there over the years, just not lately. Although Shenanigans is one of a limited number of family restaurants in Sewanee/Monteagle, if this keeps up customers will stop...
Read moreOn the 17th of February, we attended our daughter first competition indoor track and field at the Sawanee University. When it was getting close to lunch time, I have asked one of the University personnel on recommendation of places I can grab lunch for my wife and I since it was our first time visit. She recommended several place but mentioned about Shenanigans as we were craving for sandwiches etc....I went and drove down the university street and enjoyed the site of old style buildings. Stop by and walk in to place my order and mind you that temps were in the mid 20's and was about 15 minutes till 11:00 which their paper sign did mention about their schedule but being there first time, I would think they would have provided some courtesy to let me stay a bit and warm up but was told by a short stature young lady that "we are not open till 11 and mentioned to me that the sign was on the door! I politely did mention to her that I was aware of it and just wanting to see what they had on their menu so I politely ask for one and she made a face like it was to much trouble and pick one up and handed over to me and commented to me that I can look it up online...hmmmm...after reviewing their menu and no interaction with me as it was getting close to lunch time, I decided to go next door (Blue Chair Cafe & Tavern) which was best decision I made as it was a pleasant experience and good was excellent. I am not sure if she was having a bad but it must have flow over with rest of the staff as again, no interaction from any of them especially when I stated "first time here"! I do hope it was a bad day for them but as a Native American, I would not like to experience such foolishness and do hope their customer...
