Definitely worth the hike. Views are some of the best on the parkway. The easiest way to get their is from Waterrock knob. If you are going to the PLANE CRASH this is where you start. Please note that you WILL NEED SHOES! It's slightly over 1 mile to the knob. The first .2 is a very steep well maintained trail that is mostly paved walkways or rock stairs. Once you reach Waterrock catch a view and chill. It's not an ugly sight I promise. It's very touristy here. To proceed to Browning backtrack about 50 feet. There's a trail that you passed to your right (if you are leaving waterrock) this is not a maintained trail. About 20 feet in you will see a yellow blaze to confirm the trail. The next .8 is a slow go through some mud. Sort of zig zags up and down the mountain. There are lots of places where the trail splits off and meets back up. Just keep going. About an hour+ in you will arrive at Browning. It's got some incredible views. Soak them in. As you are looking out the Plane is 100 ft behind you on the more worn trail. (My girlfriend made it all the way here by herself and never found the plane.) The plane is visible about 20 feet into the well beaten path. Debris is still strewn about in 1000's of pieces. It's quite the sight to see. Surprisingly most of this wreck is intact 37 years later. Please don't graffiti. There's lots of stories about this wreck but the 2 people did die. 150 ft from clearing the mountain to the airport which is 11 miles away. After visiting here. I've found that there have been at least 54 crashes in Smoky Mtn Park alone. Possibly 5 unfound.
