The first thing to know about Stop & Shop is that they own or have rights-locked most of the grocery-store sized-lots on Cape Cod. This was revealed by the Cape Cod Times. So if you disapprove of bullying, monopolistic, price-gouging behavior, then by all means, avoid Stop & Shop on Cape Cod.
They're all also constantly hiring part-time people -- so maybe there's something wrong there, too. If you can't attract and keep good employees and have to force your customers to come to you, maybe you're not a very good store.
My online deli orders have been misplaced about half the time. I have to back up all orders with a phone call and they act like I did something wrong by daring to order online. But then that order is beautifully done. Once it was discounted as an apology, and I appreciate that.
Prices on produce are 50% higher than Market Basket at Exit 1. Despite all of this, I do stop in here about three times a month for small fill-in orders. I'd love to shop here regularly but the prices and business practices dissuade me. Most of my business goes to Market Basket which is 30 minutes away...

The past couple times I went here the produce just seemed bleh. Onions had fruit flies flying around them, their heads of lettuce were browning on the bottom rapidly, their potatoes have darker spots than most. It just seems like they don’t look at their produce often. It also seems like they sell out often when there is a sale which is a first sight for me. The woman working in the bakery this afternoon did a great job decorating a cake I bought, however she was extremely rude and abrupt when I communicated with her.
