For what it is this is a decent enough golf course. It certainly isn't the most challenging or the most interesting course in the area but it is easy to get onto, the pace of play is generally quick and the price is good. The course is fairly well maintained, as far as municipal courses go, with a few holes needing work but for the most part playable.
Pros: Price: One of the most affordable courses in the area. Depending on your flexibility you can walk 18 holes for under 15 dollars.
Access: Easy to get a tee time and most walk ons can get a round in with little trouble. Pace of play generally is quick. This is an easily walkable course.
Staff: Generally easy to get along with, friendly.
Condition: For the price decent enough for general play. It isn't perfect but the grass was cut and the greens run fairly well. Some tees could use some work but that could be said about any course in the are.
Cons: Not the most challenging. From the back tees the course is maybe 5900 yards and most holes are fairly straight. If you slice or hook you can get yourself into trouble but if you hit the ball reasonable straight you should be able to navigate the course.
Layout is wonky in spots: Some of this is because Yelm has taken some land via eminent domain but the last two holes are somewhat strange in their layout and you have to walk back to the tee from 17 to get to 18, which means you have to watch out for people hitting from the 17th tee.
Some holes have issues with tee boxes and one or two greens need some work. This could be said about a lot of courses though.
Overall not a bad place to work on your game or, depending on the time of day, to get a quick 9 or 18. I've played 18, walking, in well under 3...
Read moreEDIT Sounds like since the following happened, the course was bought out, I personally know the employees of the owner, and he has since fired mostly everyone, including the guy from the pro shop that spit on me. (Still cant believe that happened!). Anyways changing the stars to 4 until I go to the course and give them a chance for 5 stars :) Been on Google for over a decade and never thought once to give a bad review. We showed up for our tee time at 9:12am on Father's day, no carts, so we waited for an hour. No big deal at all....we golfed a scramble 4 sum, no issues with anyone pushing into us, decent pace at 1.5 hours per 9. On 18th hole the pro shop employee rolled out while we were hitting and said we are taking way too long, and other golfers have been waiting for 45 minutes for a cart....super aggressively. When we were done, we saw him and we let him know we waited for an hour for a cart and was not holding anyone up, he said I don't care and to hurry up. After asking him if that's how they treat people here he, I kid you not spit at my feet and said "* yeah"....our group had to leave on that...
Read moreAte lunch at tahoma valley golf course. The food was excellent, however the service was one star. This has been my experience each time I have visited the restaurant. My husband had the Reuben sandwich, and I had the chicken Caesar salad. We had drinks, vodka tonic with sweetened lime. The waitress muddled lime wedges and added stevia. When I went up to the bar and asked for Rose's lime juice, the waitress heard me and said what she hid it put in our drinks. I said that's not even close to what we ordered. The waitress said they didn't have any sweetened lime juice. The waiter grabbed a bottle and said yes we do. I asked for a shot glass with some in it to add to our drinks. Well that made it pretty much worse. So when the waitress came to our table we asked for two new drinks. She brought two new drinks but the tonic water was flat. We didn't feel like waiting for a third round of drinks to be made. When the food came, the waitress never brought the toast that came with the salad. This just is par for the course whenever I eat at this restaurant. The food is so good, I wished the service was...
