As comissaries go, this one is relatively small in comparison. Therefore, the selection is a bit limited. It's to be expected, as this is a fairly small Marine base. As for the cashiers & courtesy clerks (grocery baggers, for those Google maps users, a fair percentage of whom are "vocabularily" challenged), they are working at a COMISSARY, not a Safeway or Whole Foods, etc. There is no corporate standard on how employees in those positions should conduct themselves. They discuss their personal business in front of customers and the baggers complain (very loudly) if you have a full basket or cart of groceries. My first experience inside of this commissary was the absolute worse. We had just moved aboard MCAS, therefore we needed a lot of groceries. As I approached the cashier (only 2 registers were open and the cashier for one was bagging for the other), all you heard her say very loudly was, "I'm tired of this, why can't people who have big orders just go to Walmart or something. I'm ready to go so I can get ready for my date tonight."

Read moreI always save from 20-30 % at the Commissary as compared to local grocery stores. Pet food is especially low in price, frozen vegetables and bread products too. Meat prices about same as regular price in grocery stores, but grocery stores usually have T-bone, New York, and Rib Eye steak (at least one choice) on sale for less than half the Commissary price. Local store brands are also less expensive than comparable commissary name brands.
The Commissary is much more than a convenience, it is a significant benefit for our active duty and retired military veterans.
