Quite the story. (First of all, I go regularly to Big C and pay by card.) It is Tet: the supermarket is overcrowded, people push one another everywhere, fight over apples, roll with their carts over my feet etc. I am at the cashier and it is time to pay: Stickers saying that they accept Visa and MasterCard are everywhere, credit card machines are everywhere, people around me are paying by card. I show my credit card to the cashier, she says "no", I ask a few more times and just get more "no's", I ask her if she can call a manager, one more no; it goes without saying that I was short on cash and that all the ATMs at the supermarket (two) were out of service (Tet). A minute goes by, I tell her that I am waiting and ask her a second time if she can call a manager: no. An old man at the cashier next to me starts yelling and threatening me (he was not waiting behind me and did not know the people behind me). One more minute goes by and I am about to leave, helpless, when a Vietnamese American woman at another cashier asks me if I need any help. I explain to her what is going on, she asks a few workers around and all answer her that "they can't help". She then says "I will pay for you", asks me how much I owe and hands me the cash. I then pay, tell her I will pay her back by wire transfer, she tells me that she lives in the US and has no Vietnamese account, she then calls one of her friends who texts her her bank account number. I pay her back. I am beyond thankful, she completely saved the day, thank you so so much. (Also, shocked of how I was treated by the staff, while I am a...
Read moreGo! Da Lat is a large and well stocked supermarket conveniently located on the edge of Xuan Huong Lake, making it a handy stop for both tourists and long stay visitors. You can enter from the rear car park or from Lam Vien Square, with multiple easy entry points leading into the vibrant shopping space.
The supermarket itself is extensive and has everything you could possibly need from fresh produce and imported snacks to personal care, baby products, alcohol, and even electronics. The checkout area is efficient, even during busy hours, and the store is well laid out for easy navigation. Prices are reasonable and there are plenty of promotions, especially during their anniversary celebrations (we saw giveaways and a 1,000,000 VND prize draw per day!).
What stood out was the massive range of snacks like Bento squid, Slide chips, and Custas cakes displayed in eye catching pyramid towers. There’s also a decent wine selection featuring both local and international labels.
If you’re staying a while in Da Lat and want to do a proper grocery run, this is definitely the place to go. Clean, bright, and reliable, Go! Da Lat lives up to its name.

Read moreLove it but also always dread going here... as Dalat's primary and biggest supermarket, it's often very, very crowded, especially on some evenings. Once at peak time, I had to wait nearly half an hour at the check-out line. There's an underground parking garage, but you can also access it from above-ground next to the green artichoke building. There's a locker area where you should place your bags in before entering. (I don't think backpacks are allowed, unless if you get them to tie-lock it up.) I can usually find whatever general thing I need here, from sunscreen to a water thermos bottle to laundry detergent to ground coffee to almond milk. As for produce, every time I go what they have is a little different and also depends on what's in season (e.g., on some days they'll have 7 different varieties of mangoes, sometimes there will be baskets of different types of avocados all on sale, sometimes there are no potatoes or no cucumbers or corn or onions to be found, etc). There's also a bakery section + a small pre-made...
