The town and stately seat of Braunfels were first mentioned in 1246. Braunfels has had town rights since 1607. In 1950 Braunfels had a population of 3,337. In the course of municipal reforms, the aforesaid constituent communities, formerly all independent villages, were amalgamated with Braunfels in 1972.
Bonbaden had its first documented mention in 772, and so celebrated 1200 years of existence in 1972. Bonbaden is therefore one of Lahn-Dill's oldest inhabited places.
Schloss Braunfels, a stately home that had been built from a castle built in the 13th century by the Counts of Nassau, served as of about 1260 as the Solms-Braunfels noble family's residential castle. After Solms Castle had been destroyed by the Rhenish League of Towns in 1384, Braunfels Castle became the seat of the Counts of Solms. Over the castle's more than 750-year-long history, building work was done many times. Particularly worthy of mention is the town and castle fire of 1679, which burnt much of Braunfels and its stately seat down. Both were then built into a Baroque residence. Schloss Braunfels was rebuilt out of materials that were still on hand. The town was given a regular marketplace, which is still preserved today and lies before the town wall.

The castle and grounds are magnificent. It would have been a perfect day, except our tour guide had no sense of humor and was very stuffy. She kept hurrying everyone on when we wanted to take pictures, and demanded that everyone stop taking photos to look at her while she was speaking, leaving almost no time for photos. However, she spent a lot of time talking about the paintings and not nearly enough time answering our questions. When someone asked a clarifying question, she scolded them by answering, "I already told you." and moving on. When someone in the group asked to pause to take pictures, she directed exactly how she wanted everyone to take the photo. It was still a great time, but would have been much better if the tour guide (Andrea) would lighten up.

We hiked there (8km) through the woods from our vacation bungalow in Leun. The first sight of the castle through the trees was magical. Fortunately, the tourbuss full of elderly Dutch people for their own tour, so we ended up in a small group of 6. (Tours every hour on the hour)
The private medieval armour collection of the owners was impressive and beautiful. It was refreshing that this was more of a casual museum and not one with many signs with endless tldr texts. You could ask the tourguide anything.
The castle looks wonderful and well maintained.
Note. This is a medieval Castle, lots of steps, no lifts or ramps because... well, it's medieval

Well worth a visit and the tour. Educational! Tour is in German but they can give you a little sheet that helps you get something out of it if you don't speak German. Still inhabited castle. Fascinating history. Backdrop for a few Netflix movies. No pictures or video allowed inside, so just enjoy the visit.
Parking lots are clearly marked with a little bit of an uphill walk, but short. Tickets for tour (every top of the hour) can be purchased inside the Cafe. However, nearly no tours during winter time bender Castle gets way to cold (will be explained on tour).

Wir wollten zum späten Nachmittag noch einen gepflegten Wald- oder Parkspaziergang machen und da wir den Tierpark auch schon bei früheren Besuchen schätzen gelernt hatten, sind wir hier her gefahren. Gegen 16:15 standen wir am Einlass und da war schon klar, dass uns nur noch maximal eine Stunde blieb, dann würde es zu dunkel für die unbeleuchteten Wege werden. Letzter Einlass ist 17:00 Uhr, trotzdem kostet der Eintritt auch jetzt noch 6 € pro Person. Das ist schon ein stolzer Preis für eine Stunde, zumal sich auch etliche der Tiere schon in ihre Ruhebereiche zurück gezogen hatten (es sah zumindest so aus).
Wir haben uns aber doch für den Besuch entschieden und es wurde, wie meistens in diesem Wildpark, ein sehr schöner, wenn auch etwas abgekürzter Rundgang. Der Vorteil dieser vorgerückten Stunde, war, dass wir fast alleine unterwegs waren. Die Wildschweine, die Auerochsen, die Wildpferde und - besonders beeindruckend im Abendlicht - das Rotwild waren auch noch aktiv und im Gehege unterwegs. Die Ziegen haben zumindest alle mal neugierig ihren Kopf aus ihrer Hütte herausgestreckt (was durchaus lustig aussah) und auch die Schafe guckten aus der offenen Hüttentür zu uns rüber. Im Nagerstall konnten wir noch den Kaninchen und Meerschweinchen beim Futtern zusehen. Das war auch soweit ganz ok, normalerweise oder tagsüber bekommt man meist noch sehr viel mehr der Tiere zu sehen, aber zum einen wurde es immer dunkler und in manchen Freigehegen war auch anscheinend kein Tier mehr draußen (was aber auch durchaus mal am hellen Tag vorkommen kann). Letzten Endes war es ein schöner Spaziergang, auf dem man sich nicht oder kaum verlaufen konnte und die Wege sind etwas angenehmer zu laufen als auf den normalen Wander- oder Wirtschaftswegen im Wald.

Wir lieben Tier-und Wildparks, mögen aber keine Zoos. Im Wildpark Weilburg hatten wir ein gutes Gefühl, dass es den Tieren wirklich gut geht und sie in artgerechten Arealen leben. Das Gelände ist etwas größer als 90ha.
Der Tiere leben in kleinen Gruppen zusammen. Sie haben genügend Unterschlupf und Versteckmöglichkeiten. Was wir sehr befürworten. Natürlich kann es mal passieren, dass der Besucher dann nicht alle zu sehen bekommt. Otter, Bären und Wölfe haben sich bei uns nicht blicken lassen.
Wir waren sehr beeindruckt, dass wir zwei Luxe haben spielen sehen und wir so die Möglichkeit hatten sie längere Zeit zu beobachten. Das war ein Highlight!
Ebenfalls sehr schön war, beim Durchlaufen des Wildgeheges, kam uns ein Reh entgegen und ließ sich streicheln.
In vielen Gruppen gibt es Nachwuchs, was dafür spricht, dass sich die Tiere wohl und geschützt fühlen.
Wir waren etwa 3 Stunden im Park spazieren. Der Eintritt kostete 7,- €/p.P.
Wir kauften noch Souvenirs (Kuscheltiere) die ebenfalls sehr erschwinglich waren.
Diesen sonnigen Herbsttag, bei sehr wenig Besuchern werden wir sehr gut in Erinnerung behalten und kommen bald wieder.

The zoo amazed us with its beauty. My family and I came to nature on a hot, sunny summer day. And although the animals were hot and hid during the day, it still didn't stop us from enjoying the forest. By the evening, the animals came out and we were able to meet them. We were especially surprised by the elk and wolves. If possible, I would like to go back there 🥹

Der Wildpark ist wirklich sehr schön und auf einem Rundweg kann man den ganzen Park ablaufen. Der Rundweg ist schon für Kinder ab ca. 2,5 Jahren zum Selbstlaufen machbar. Ansonsten ist es kein Problem, einen Kinderwagen oder Buggy zu schieben. Es gibt Otter, Bären, Luchse, Wildschweine, Wildkatzen, Sikawild, Wölfe und Elche zu bestaunen, außerdem Wisente, Auerochsen und Tapane. Ein Streichelzoo mit Ziegen und Meerschweinchen rundet das Ganze ab. Der Spielplatz ist wirklich sehr schön angelegt und lädt zum Verweilen ein. Etwas schade war, dass wir an einem Montag dort waren und das Lokal geschlossen hatte. Aber man kann ja selbst ein Picknick einpacken, genügend Tische und Bänke gibt es z. B. in der Nähe der Köhlerhütte.
Genügend kostenlose Parkplätze sind übrigens auch vorhanden und die sanitären Anlagen waren bei unserem Besuch top in Schuss!
Alles in allem eine klare Empfehlung, denn obwohl die Gehege groß sind, konnten wir alle Tiere sehr gut sehen!

Beautiful place for a Sunday walk with friends or family, the kids are gonna love it.
It's amazing how comfortable the deers look with the people walking around and how close they get without running away.
They don't have a big amount of animal species, but it's a cool place to enjoy nature and breathe fresh air.

Weilburg old town center and its castle are well worth a visit. Sitting high on a rocky hill it commands a great view of the Taunus and the river Lahn which nearly completly surrounds the town. The castle and gardens date back to 1600 and in the town center and market square houses dating back to the 17th century can be seen. A favorite pass time is to hire a boat on the Lahn and go down river and return via mini bus. Weilburg also boasts Germanys only boat tunnel. Lots of parking is available. Train station costs 1 euro per day. Free parking is available on Lahn promenade 500 metres from town center. Follow sighns. Also parking for camper vans is sighned out.

Замок Вайльбург считается одним из значительных архитектурных памятников ренессанса и барокко в земле Хессен. С начала ХХII века Вайльбург (Weilburg) являлся резиденцией древнего рода графов фон Нассау, и именно по приказу графа Иоганна I фон Нассау за 4 года (1355-1359 г.г.) на территории этого немецкого городка был возведён замок. В следующее десятилетие вокруг города была построена защитная городская стена, от которой прекрасно сохранилась величественная круглая башня.
Замок Вайльбург (Schloss Weilburg)
Архитектурный ансамбль замка Вайльбург, построенный по образу Версаля, по праву считают одним из самых импозантных и красивых мест Европы. В интерьере замка доминирует богато украшенная утончённая мебель XVI века – периода ренессанса. После существенной перестройки и расширения Вайльбурга в 1700-1721 годах, в интерьере замка стали отчётливо прорисовываться нотки барочного стиля. Именно в эти годы были построены уникальная верхняя Оранжерея и Дворцовая церковь работы Людвига Ротвайля. А на территории хозяйственного двора XVIII века гармонично вписавшегося в ансамбль замка сегодня расположены уютный ресторан Alte Reitschule и отель Вайльбург, которые круглый год радушно принимают путешественников со всех уголков мира.
Верхняя оранжерея
Замок расширялся и перестраивался вплоть до начала XVIII века, когда его владельцем был генерал-фельдмаршал граф Иоганн Эрнст Нассау. Своё родовое гнездо он решил перестроить на версальский лад. Строительство шло под руководством архитектора Юлия Ротвайля с 1701 по 1721 года.

An absolut hidden Gem, never destroyed with all the historical layers a castle/palace needs. The interiors so fascinating and divers. The festive Orangerie… I just loved it. The gardens extremely well kept and beautifully arranged. My personal palace discovery of this year. The only bummer, you can’t take photos from the inside. A policy that should change since you could advertise the palace much better. :)

The castle itself was closed when we arrived 🚪, but strolling around the gardens 🌿 was peaceful and calm. With very few tourists, it felt like a hidden gem ✨—quiet paths, lovely views over the town and valley 🌄, and a relaxing atmosphere. Even without going inside, the setting makes it worth a stop. 🙌 Will definitely come back next time with family.

I need to come back here in the spring. The castle had some minor construction going on and the grounds were partially closed. With that being said, what we saw was great. Being able to walk the open grounds and the surrounding town was a fun experience. Parking was close and it wasn't busy. They offer many different tours and events. All affordable. Plan to go back!
