[DMV Foodie Adventure] Newly Minted Michelin-Starred Peruvian Cuisine
🌟Visited an Impressionist exhibition in DC on Sunday and dropped by a newly Michelin-starred Peruvian restaurant with a friend. The place actually has two sections: CAUSA on the lower level, which is the starred one, specializing in a tasting menu, and Amazonia upstairs, which is more casual with an à la carte bistro style. Both serve dishes prepared by the same kitchen team, so the quality is pretty much the same. 🌟We booked late and only got outdoor seating at Amazonia. My advice is to book an indoor table in advance if you can, because it got really cold later on. Although there were heaters above, I was roasted to the top while sitting below, and it was still chilly at night. But it should be very comfortable when the weather is nice. 🌟We were a group of five and ordered a lot of dishes, haha. Practically every dish was delicious and not much of a letdown, though the portions weren’t large, which is expected for fine dining. 🌟The parmesan grilled scallop dish added some spices like cumin and basil, giving it a unique flavor. The scallops were fresh and tender, a creative and delicious dish. The dish in the second picture is octopus potato puree, also very creative and aromatic. The soft texture of the potato puree and the tender octopus complement each other perfectly, with some crispy spices sprinkled on top, making it very appetizing! 🌟In the distance was the housemade pasta of the day, which I heard was a mix of braised wagyu and brie cheese. The pasta was chewy with a wheat flavor, and the sauce was rich and delicious, a great main course. 🌟The pork sausage and egg fried rice, yes, Peruvian cuisine is heavily influenced by Chinese food, and it’s called CHAUFAN on the menu (the only dish name I could read, haha). It was very aromatic, with distinct rice grains, wok hei, and delicious. 🌟The tomato and potato stewed wagyu dish, haha, it’s like a high-end version of tomato potato beef brisket. They creatively let you choose the doneness of the beef, and the rice is steamed with garlic, a decent dish, just like the taste of ordinary tomato beef brisket over rice. 🌟Their three desserts (only three options, haha). The one on the right is an acai bowl, full of fresh fruit with yogurt, very refreshing, something I’d love for breakfast. The middle one is a chocolate cake with an ice cream flavor that’s a specialty of the Amazon, supposedly a type of cocoa bean, and it indeed had a cocoa bean taste. The one closest to me is a mud made from a Peruvian specialty plant, served with passion fruit and matcha powder, a unique taste, sour and sweet, very refreshing, highly recommended! 🌟They automatically include a 20% service charge, so there’s no need to leave an additional tip. #FoodRecommendations
