[Fun] Around DC – Visiting an 18th-Century American Inn 🏡

🌟 The Red Fox Inn & Tavern, located in the historic town of Middleburg, Virginia, is an old inn founded in 1728 that’s still in operation today! It’s run by the Reuter family. 🌟 Where there’s history, there are stories—this place has hosted many famous political and business figures, like JFK and Jacqueline Kennedy. Rumor has it Jacqueline often stayed here because she loved hunting 🐎. Also, Elizabeth Taylor frequently dated her seventh husband, former Senator John Warner, here 💃❤️. 🌟 The town of Middleburg was established in 1787, but this inn had already been around for over half a century by then! In fact, it’s one of the oldest continuously operating inns in the U.S. My friend chose to celebrate our anniversary here, hoping our friendship lasts as long as this inn has—haha! 🥂👭 🌟 We dined in a huge outdoor tent—maybe because we were in great spirits, the atmosphere felt incredibly romantic and pleasant 😊🌳. The food was pretty good, especially the duck entrée 🦆. Duck can often be dry and tricky to cook well, but I’ve always liked it—so I took a chance and ordered it. Turned out amazing! The skin was crispy but not burnt, and the meat inside was super tender. Absolutely delicious! 👌🍷 🌟 I’d love to stay overnight for a change of scenery, but the town is quite small—staying longer might not be necessary. Still, it’s perfect for a day trip! There are lots of antique shops to explore 🕰️🛍️. Since there are many foxes in the area, they were even hosting a painted fox art contest when we visited—so fun! 🦊🎨 Plus, there are plenty of wineries along the way. If you come during the day, ending the evening with a glass of wine while watching the sunset at a vineyard is highly recommended! 🍇🌅 🌟 Our server was incredibly kind—when he found out we were celebrating an anniversary, he showered us with blessings 🥹💖. As we were leaving, I’d already stepped out when my friend ran back to ask if the inn had any souvenirs. The server apologetically said no… but then chased after us to give us a brochure about the inn 😂. Seems they really didn’t have much to offer, but it was such a sweet gesture! Memories are the best souvenirs anyway! 📖💫 #WashingtonDC #HistoricInn #VirginiaTravel #MiddleburgVA #OldestInn #USHistory #JFK #ElizabethTaylor #FoodAndTravel #DayTripIdeas #WineryTour #AntiqueShopping #RomanticGetaway #LocalExperiences #TravelMemories #HiddenGems
