[Travel] Omaha: Following Buffett’s Footsteps & Midwest Slow Living
🏡 Buffett-Themed Check-Ins 3555 Farnam Street Buffett’s former residence—a plain single-family house, incredibly low-key and unassuming 🏠. No flashy decor, just a quiet home that reflects his down-to-earth style. Blackstone Plaza The headquarters of Berkshire Hathaway 📊. A modest building that’s far from the grand skyscrapers you’d expect for a major corporation—very much in line with Buffett’s understated vibe. CHI Health Center The venue for Berkshire Hathaway’s annual shareholder meeting 🎤. Every year, thousands of investors flock here—this is where the "Oracle of Omaha" shares his wisdom! 🏰 Iconic Landmarks Joslyn Castle & Gardens Once the home of George and Sarah Joslyn—Omaha’s early millionaires, philanthropists, and among the entrepreneurs who moved to the Midwest after the transcontinental railroad was built 🚂. The century-old castle and its gardens are grand and elegant 🌸; if you’re interested, join a guided tour to learn about the family’s history and the castle’s architecture. Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge A pedestrian bridge connecting Nebraska and Iowa 🌉. Perfect for a leisurely walk—you can stroll across state lines while enjoying views of the river below! 🎨 Cultural Experiences Joslyn Art Museum Commissioned by Sarah Joslyn to honor her late husband George and gift to Omaha’s residents 🎨. Three connected buildings house a collection of 19th–20th century American and European art, plus modern works. There are also some Asian exhibits, though many of the descriptions have inaccuracies—something to note! Union Pacific Railroad Museum A small three-story building with exhibits on the 2nd and 3rd floors 🚆. It combines static displays and interactive exhibits to tell the story of the Midwest’s railroad system. You’ll get a great sense of how railroads shaped industry, daily life, and even played a role in wars—super informative! Old Market A charming district with retro shops and corridors lined with tropical greenery 🌿. You’ll find all kinds of handmade crafts and Midwest-themed souvenirs here—perfect for picking up a unique memento! 🍽️ Dining Experiences Gorat's I ordered Buffett’s favorite 22oz T-bone steak 🥩. The taste was decent, but the hashbrowns were a standout—crispy and flavorful! A classic spot for fans wanting to follow in Buffett’s culinary footsteps. Reuben Sandwich This sandwich actually originated in Omaha! I tried it at Jackson Street Tavern—made with rye bread, corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut 🥪. The flavor was light and balanced, a must-try local staple. I originally planned to visit the zoo and aquarium the next day, but it was still pretty cold in early April ❄️. Since most of the zoo is outdoors, I decided to skip it and save it for a warmer trip later. All in all, Omaha is a calm, laid-back town—perfect for a 1–2 day road trip (street parking is easy, just $1 per hour ⏳). It’s a great place to experience Midwest life, and everywhere I went brought back memories of my time studying in a small "college town" 📚. Next time, I want to visit the Flight Museum and attend Buffett’s shareholder meeting—I bet the whole town will be buzzing with energy then! 🎉 #Omaha #Nebraska #Midwest #Railroad #WarrenBuffett #USMidwest #TravelUSA #FoodieTravel
