| Addis Ababa | Meeting Our Ancestors
🦴The most famous exhibit in the museum is the fossil of "Human Grandmother" Lucy, which is about 40% complete and was discovered in 1974 in the Afar Depression of Ethiopia. It dates back to around 3.2 million years ago and is believed to be the earliest known human capable of walking, belonging to the Australopithecus afarensis species. 💀Omo I and Omo II skull fossils: The museum also displays two skull fossils that are anatomically very similar to modern humans, which were discovered in the southern Omo Valley region and lived approximately 195,000 years ago. These fossils provide strong evidence that modern humans originated in Africa around 250,000 to 150,000 years ago. 💀The Ceram skull: This is the oldest known child skull on Earth, approximately 3.3 million years old. In addition to the National Museum, we also visited Addis Ababa University, where there is a folk museum that was originally the royal palace of a former king; although the history depicted there may seem distant to us, the artwork in the museum is quite charming, and I particularly enjoyed it. In the end, I’d like to vent about Ethiopia’s public transportation: since we weren’t in a hurry, we took the trip from Jinqia to Addis Ababa, covering a distance of 400 kilometers, which took us two days to complete; on the first day, we had to leave Jinqia at 6 AM to arrive in Albamish at 3 PM, after which we had to find a hotel to check in at; the next day, we had to leave again at 6 AM to arrive in the capital at 6 PM the following day; you could say that the efficiency was extremely low, and the buses were really crowded and decrepit; there were at least ten checkpoints along the way, and using the restrooms was basically like going to a public bush. 😂It was probably the most grueling travel experience I’ve ever had, but if you can’t stand it, you can always opt for a direct flight from Albamini to the capital city, which costs between 200 and 400 RMB and is also quite cost-effective. After seven days in Ethiopia, I finally had a hot bath on the day I arrived in Addis Ababa, which felt like returning to a civilized society.😂 #Ethiopia #AddisAbaba #Kinka #EasternAfrica
