๐จ๐ฆ Western Canada Road Trip Pt.3 โ Calgary Foodie Diary ๐
After leaving Winnipeg and making our way through Alberta, our second stop was naturally Calgary ๐๐จ. We had about four meals here โ totally focused on eating, with some city walking in between ๐. Mostly tried Chinese spots โ hereโs the rundown: ๐ฅฉ Master Beef Hot Pot The Chinese name sounds so powerful lol โ but itโs actually a Chaoshan-style beef hot pot! ๐ฒ As a huge fan of this style, I highly recommend it! We got the $85 two-person set โ super filling. The beef was fresh (thank you, Alberta cows ๐ฎ๐), though the cuts were named a bit differently compared to what Iโm used to. The satay sauce was on point โ tasted just like back home! ๐ Not recommended: The hand-made beef balls โ not bouncy or chewy at all. Not like the real deal. ๐ก Tip: Make a reservation! We showed up once and were totally turned away. Ended up booking for the next day. Not sure if itโs just that busy on weekends! ๐ As someone from Lanzhou, I had to try two beef noodle spots: โถ Moguyan Lanzhou Beef Noodles Had no idea Moguyan made it all the way to Canada! Had to try. In Lanzhou, honestly, only their flagship store is really good โ the others are just okayโฆ so I was a bit nervous. You can choose between their "signature" style or the "traditional Lanzhou" style. The staff said the signature one has stronger seasoning โ so obviously I went with that ๐ First bite: The chili flavor tasted a bit unusualโฆ but after a few slurps, I got used to it. The broth and noodles were pretty decent. Also tried their beef skewers โ not bad. โท Niubuer Hand-Pulled Noodles Their beef noodles were just average โ nothing special. Not really my type. BUT their stir-fried noodles surprised me โ super tasty! The seaweed salad was the best part though ๐ There was a little hiccup โ the first serving of fried noodles was a bit undercooked, but the server was super nice and had the kitchen redo it. ๐ Overall take: Moguyan wasnโt that much better than Golโs Noodle in Winnipeg. And Niubuerโs beef noodles werenโt even as good as Golโs. ๐ Mekong Restaurant (Vietnamese) Randomly picked this place near our hotel โ turned out pretty good! The stir-fried beef (recommended by the staff) was especially delicious ๐ ๐ญ Overall impression: Every meal we had in Calgary was solid โ and the service was noticeably good ๐ For the first time, I actually felt happy leaving a tip ๐ณ๐ Every time the bill came, the staff turned away โ zero pressure while entering tips. Winnipegโฆ youโve got some catching up to do ๐ #Canada #ChineseFoodLover #NorthAmericanLife #Calgary #CalgaryEats #TippingCulture #RoadTrip
