🇫🇷 Columbus Ohio — French Dining at The Refectory
Probably one of Columbus’s few French restaurants — pre-pandemic it was pricey, now it’s much more affordable. It’s often called Columbus’s Michelin-level spot — service is definitely up there, though the food is just okay in my opinion. Good if you want to try French cuisine or enjoy the vibe, but don’t expect to leave super full. The entrance is pretty low-key — right next to Gogi. I’ve passed it many times and never noticed. A cool feature: the menu changes daily, though classics like escargot and foie gras are always available. Walk in and you’re greeted by two huge walls of wine 🍷 — we weren’t planning to drink, but with that display, we had to try a couple glasses (though I’m no wine expert 😅). Service gets ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — they explain every dish carefully and give recommendations based on your taste. 💛 Escargot and Shiitake Marble Not your typical baked whole snails — here the snail meat is set in a terrine-like mold (maybe with aspic or egg?) and sliced. Honestly, the little bread with the sauce was better than the snail itself. 💛 Lamb Chops Cooked quite rare and tender — not my favorite. No gaminess, but not much flavor either. I prefer lamb chops at The Guild House or Veritas — cooked a bit more. 💛 Foie Gras I’m gonna say it… it was bad 😭. Tasted like fancy Spam made from foie gras — maybe I’m just not refined enough 😂. The pickled cucumbers on the side were surprisingly good though. 💛 Duck Breast This was pretty tasty — tender meat, crispy skin, reminded me a bit of Peking duck! 💛 Pear Tart The star of the night!! It healed my foie gras trauma. The pears were roasted and caramelized, served with jam, cream cheese, and powdered sugar — light and delicious. And it earns the highest praise from a Chinese palate: not too sweet! 🍐✨ 📍 Address: 1092 Bethel Rd, Columbus, OH 43220 ⏰ Closed Sunday, Monday & Tuesday — reservations recommended! #FoodHeals #Columbus #ColumbusEats #FoodReview #FrenchCuisine #ColumbusFood 🥂
