🇬🇧 8 Days in Greece with My Bestie
Just got back from an 8-day trip to Greece with my best friend and realized it doesn’t have to be super expensive — but there are lots of little pitfalls! Saving you from the traps we fell into 👇 ✈️ Transportation & Itinerary Layover vs. Direct Flight: There are few direct flights from China to Athens, and they’re expensive. We flew with Qatar Airways with a layover in Doha — perfect for a break! Island Hopping: You MUST take a boat to visit Shipwreck Bay in Zakynthos! 🚢 Our tour included tickets, but if you’re traveling independently, book one day in advance at the port with a licensed boat company. Make sure it includes a stop at the Blue Caves! The turquoise water and white sand are breathtaking 🤩 Don’t forget a waterproof phone pouch! 🏛 Trip Highlights & Personal Recommendations 📍 Athens Acropolis is a must: The Parthenon is scorching hot! Go at 8 AM for fewer crowds and softer light. Wear sports shoes — the stone paths are rough. Plaka Old Town: Great for buying olive soaps and natural sponges as souvenirs 🧼 But watch out for pickpockets! My friend’s backpack was almost opened — stay alert! Food Rec: MANHMANH Restaurant near Syntagma Square! Try grilled lamb, mussels, and Greek salad. Around €25 per person — authentic and locals-approved! 😋 📍 Santorini Oia Sunset: Arrive 2 hours early to snag a front-row viewing spot! The golden light over the blue domes looks like a painting 🎨 Black Sand Beach: The volcanic sand is rough, but the water is crystal clear! Bring water shoes and a quick-dry towel. Sunbeds cost ~€10 per day (you can bargain!). 💡 Must-Know Tips 1️⃣ Taxis: Athens drivers often overcharge and take detours. Always insist on the meter or ask your hotel to book one for you. 2️⃣ Prices in Santorini: Fira is cheaper than Oia. Fridge magnets: €3 in Fira, €5 in Oia. Avoid tourist traps — some restaurants charge €45 for lobster pasta! 🦞 3️⃣ What to Wear: White or bright-colored dresses — they pop against the blue and white backdrop! 👗 4️⃣ Sunscreen: Use SPF 50+ and wear a wide-brim hat! The sun is no joke here ☀️ I used to think group tours were rushed and shopping-focused, but this trip changed my mind! Our tour was transparent, flexible, and left plenty of free time in Santorini. Our guide even prepared maps and tips — no worries about getting lost! With frequent strikes and changing ferry schedules in Greece, going with a tour was such a relief. All we had to do was take photos and sip coffee ☕️ Greece is best enjoyed slowly: sitting at a cliffside café in Oia, watching the sunset sink into the Aegean Sea… in that moment, I truly understood — “life is worth it” 💙 #Zakynthos #ShipwreckBayTour #GreeceTravelTips #PhotoParadise #BlueCaves #WhiteBeach #SoloFriendlyTours #Greece #GreekIslands #AthensTravel #SantoriniGuide #GreekFood #SantoriniHotels
