That’s what I thought before coming. But after a 4-day, 3-night solo trip — I almost didn’t want to leave! Total spend: ~¥2500 💶 Not stolen from, not robbed. Found 70 cents on the street 🪙, but lost a €9 ticket by my own fault 😭 🏨 Accommodation ❗️ Choose your location carefully — avoid the area around Omonia Square. Better to stay near Syntagma Square or Plaka, as close to the Acropolis as possible. I booked a cozy Airbnb perfect for solo travelers — with a small balcony offering a partial night view of the Acropolis 🏛️✨. Downstairs: an AB supermarket (small, but handy). 🚇 Transport ChatGPT recommended the 3-day pass for €20, so I got it. Buses are a bit old; the metro is better but not very frequent. No phone signal underground — I missed my stop more than once 😅 🏛️ Acropolis Low season = single ticket for €10. Available on-site. Tried the “free under-25 EU ticket” online — got rejected (Europeans only). ❗ Don’t be late! Max 15 mins grace period. Ticket office closes at 4:40 PM in low season — I arrived 30 mins late on day 1 and was turned away 😢 📸 Solo Photo Tip (No Tripod Needed) Shoot from the security booth opposite the Parthenon — you can rest your phone on the window ledge or door frame. Google "rooftop bars" — lots of options! Somespots have minimum spend (not worth it). I went to Couleur Locale — good reviews, reasonable prices. Some views are partly blocked, so go early to grab the best spot. Sip a cocktail 🍹, watch the sunset and the lit-up Acropolis — pure bliss! ⛲ Syntagma Square Caught the changing of the guard — quite humorous! From here to Monastiraki Square = great for strolling. Totally different vibe day vs. night — packed with tourists in the evening. Felt safe walking alone. 🏛️ Temple of Olympian Zeus Looked like a construction site from outside — didn’t pay to enter. Viewed through the fence — enough for this budget traveler 🎫 🏟️ Panathenaic Stadium European student card = half-price ticket (€5). You can run on the track! Museum displays Olympic torches — worth the ticket. 💬 Final Thoughts Athens felt safe overall, with plenty of nightlife options. But neighborhoods vary — avoid Omonia if you can.
