🇬🇷 Greece | Two-Day Athens Travel Guide

Athens is a perfect city for urban exploring 🚶‍♀️—its neighborhoods are compact and vibrant, a bit chaotic yet organized, making it ideal for solo travelers who love to walk and discover. Spent two amazing days here with my travel buddies and had a blast! 🎫 1. Acropolis Ticket Booking Make sure to book your ticket online at least a day or a few days in advance! The on-site queues can be incredibly long 🥵, especially on sunny days. Get the Acropolis & Slopes ticket for €30 – that’s all you need. 🏛️ 2. Panathenaic Stadium (Olympic Site) You can buy tickets on-site—it’s usually not too crowded. 🇬🇧 UK students, remember to bring your student ID for a half-price ticket (€5)! This place is totally worth a visit. It’s where the first modern Olympics were held 🏟️. Though smaller compared to today’s Olympic venues, it’s still impressive. 🍽️ 3. Food Recommendations Stani (Century-old Yogurt Shop) 🥛 Perfect for brunch before heading to the Acropolis. We tried: Cow yogurt / Sheep yogurt with walnut and honey Rice pudding Bread If you don’t like sour yogurt, go for the cow yogurt. The sheep yogurt is a bit tangy but balanced perfectly with honey and walnuts – highly recommended! Didn’t dare to try the goat milk version 😅. The rice pudding is well-loved by friends (unless you dislike cinnamon). Fresko Greek Yogurt 🍶 Located at the foot of the Acropolis, this is a popular yogurt chain. Honestly, it’s pretty standard—similar to yogurts you find in the UK, and it’s takeaway only. I’d recommend Stani over this. Atitamos Greek Restaurant 🥗 Three of us ate for just over €50. Four generous dishes—highly recommend the Greek salad and moussaka (eggplant lasagna)! So delicious 😋. The shrimp seafood dish was also flavorful. A Shui Breakfast 🍳 For all my fellow Chinese food lovers—this place hits the spot! Their breakfast is one of the best in Europe. I had a steamed pork bun, a meat bun, a bowl of tofu pudding, and a tea egg for just over €5. Tastes just like home—when are they opening in the UK?! 😭 💂‍♂️ 4. Changing of the Guard at Syntagma Square The ceremony takes place daily, but the most elaborate one is on Sundays around 11 AM 🕚. The whole square and surrounding streets get packed! ⚠️ Pro tip: If you go early, don’t stand right in the center—the police will eventually move everyone to the sides. It gets super crowded, so arrive 10-20 minutes early! Still, it’s a fun and unique experience. 🚌 5. Transportation & Accommodation From the airport: Take the X95 bus—easy to find right outside the airport. It takes about an hour to Syntagma Square and costs €5.5. Super convenient! To the airport: I took the metro airport line (€9), but had to get off and wait 20 mins mid-route since not every train goes all the way to the airport. The bus is more reliable. Accommodation: I stayed at Bedbox 🏨—a 10-minute walk from Syntagma Square, right in the city center. Great for solo travelers: clean, with friendly staff. You can also leave your luggage for free after checkout. #GreeceTravel #Athens #TravelGuide ✈️❤️
