🇮🇳 DMV Food Review | Indian Restaurant: CommonWealth
This weekend, I originally wanted to try the newly opened Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao 🥟, but the line was way too long 😅. So I ended up trying CommonWealth, an Indian restaurant in Bethesda that I’d heard good things about! First off—great location! It’s in a nice Bethesda shopping area with plenty of parking 🅿️ and a pleasant streetscape with other cute shops nearby. The restaurant itself is quiet, clean, and perfect for a relaxed meal with friends 👥🍛. 🥗 1. Crispy Spinach Salad Indian cuisine isn’t just about rich curries! One of their specialties is crispy fried spinach. I’d tried a greasy version at Risika before, but this one was balanced with sweet and tangy fruit bits 🥭✨. The mango and pomegranate balanced the oiliness perfectly—and the pomegranate seeds were surprisingly soft inside! One of the best salads I’ve had lately. 🍖 2. Lamb Shank & Goat Curry Two hearty, flavor-packed dishes! • The lamb shank curry had strong notes of clove and cinnamon—rich and aromatic. The meat could’ve been a bit more tender, but the spices were on point 🌿. • The goat curry was slightly less complex in spices but had a nice kick of heat 🌶️. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender and went perfectly with rice 🍚💯. 🍗 3. Chicken Biryani Pretty standard—nothing special compared to the others. Classic Indian style, but honestly, it can’t beat a good Chinese fried rice 😉. 💵 Price & Overall Thoughts Considering the location and ambiance, the prices are very reasonable! We got three mains + one appetizer for around $100 after tax 💰—great value these days! A lot of people joke about Indian food being “clean and hygienic” 😂, but the use of spices is truly impressive. The meat dishes are deeply flavorful. We didn’t try a Masala dish this time, but everything we had was authentic and satisfying.
