🇺🇸 A Trip to Baltimore: Walters Art Museum 🖼️🌏

This week, I went on a "work trip" with my department to the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore! We focused on the Asian Art galleries – which recently reopened with a fresh exhibition: “Across Asia: Arts of Asia and the Islamic World”. The curation breaks from traditional timelines or regions – instead, it connects artifacts through themes, supported by short films and community voices 🎥✨. It’s a bold and thought-provoking approach! While it encourages new perspectives, sometimes the context overshadows the objects themselves. Highlights: The Asian/Chinese collection is impressive! A Guanyin statue with a faint golden glow was breathtaking 🙏✨. Don’t miss the lacquered wooden Buddhas and Ming Dynasty polychrome ceramics 🏺. We also saw “Objects of Curiosity” – a fun exhibit tackling questions like “Is it real?” and “How did this get here?” 🧐📦 The new “Latin American Art / Arte Latinoamericano” gallery featured playful animal-themed objects and interactive stations (you can even smell some artifacts!) 🦥🌺 As a first-time visitor to Baltimore (by train from DC 🚆), I was initially cautious about safety – but traveling with colleagues was fine. The city has beautiful historic architecture, but overall feels quiet – almost sleepy 😴. Always stay alert when exploring! #Museum #ArtLovers #Baltimore #AsianArt #USMuseums #Maryland #ExhibitionDiary #ArtAndCulture #TravelSafe 🧭📸
